WoW factor in Britomart

The World of WearableArt (WoW) has dived underground to transform Auckland’s Britomart concourse into a free art gallery.

Aucklanders will have noticed advertisements placed around bus stops around the city, but the free exhibition, located in the underpass of the transport hub, will serve to further pique the interest of passersby and remind them that tickets to Wellington’s now world famous event, which kicks off in style in September, are now on sale.

In promoting Wellington’s WoW, the Auckland gallery features 22 artworks chosen from WearableArt, a large coffee table book celebrating the past 25 years of creativity displayed by local and international designers and artists.

The illuminated floor-to-ceiling photographs include the landmark, ‘Hands Off’ piece created by WoW founder Suzie Moncrieff; the futuristic ‘Skin’ wool and silk construction by Canada’s Marjolein Dallinga and ‘City Lolita’ featuring recycled zippers by Deborah Shepherd, amongst other intriguing works.

A marriage of art, form, and recycled couture, this ultra-cool exhibition will open eyes and minds into the wonderful of WearableArt – so celebrate city culture and head to Britomart before it ends this Sunday (February 23).

The WoW Awards runs from September 25-October 12, 2014 and tickets to the Wellington event are on sale from
