This is one of the best times of the year for fashion, because the weather has cooled down a bit so you can experiment with layering, but it’s not so cold that your stylish outfits are completely hidden under a coat. Here are some of our ideas for what to layer underneath your winter coat to keep you warm.
Tank tops are an absolute wardrobe essential, especially over autumn and winter. Wear them fitted and don’t be afraid to tuck them in, because it will help keep you warm! If you’re looking for longline options, Farmers and Yours Clothing have some great options.
Bodysuits and slips are great to layer underneath things – they’re warm but they’re quite a thin layer. There are a lot of different kinds of bodysuits out there – you can keep it plain or go for details like straps or choker necklines. Don’t be afraid to add in a bit of colour here too.

Long sleeved or 3/4 sleeve tops can be layered over tanks or bodysuits, and under jumpers or kimonos. Cropped styles are popular at the moment – we definitely recommend a bodysuit or a tank under those to keep out the chill.
Want to add a bit of colour or texture to your outfit? Kimonos and sheer pieces aren’t just for summer – layer them over jeans and a top for a casual look, or ponte pants and a bodysuit for something a bit more dressy. Easy!
A lot of plus size knit jumpers tend to be quite thin, but that can make them great for layering underneath coats. It also doesn’t mean that they’re not warm so don’t discount them! Keep an eye out for materials like lambswool and merino as those are both lightweight and insulating.
