When NZ “it girl” and social media star Caitlin Wiig ventured into jewellery design, it was a natural next step for someone whose style has long captivated followers around the world.
This November, Caitlin’s creative vision comes to life in collaboration with Silver Linings Collective, a brand known for its timeless designs and commitment to quality craftsmanship. The result? A stunning capsule collection that merges Caitlin’s bold, fashion-forward sensibility with Silver Linings’ signature artistry—creating pieces that are not only stylish but made to last.
In this exclusive interview, we sit down with Caitlin and Silver Linings founder Devon Eastwood to discuss their journey together, from high school friends to creative collaborators. They open up about the design process behind the “Caitlin Ring” and “Caitlin Bangle,” the challenges they faced in translating fashion into jewellery, and the personal significance of the charitable element supporting the NZ Cancer Society. Plus, Caitlin shares her excitement about bringing statement jewellery into the everyday, while Devon reveals the thoughtfulness that went into creating pieces both beautiful and wearable.
Caitlin, this collaboration marks your first venture into jewellery design. What was it like transitioning from being a fashion “it girl” and social media influencer to designing jewellery? Were there any surprises along the way?
CW:Transitioning into jewellery design has been such an exciting and rewarding journey for me. As a fashion girly, i’ve always loved expressing myself and showing creativity through my style, but creating these jewellery pieces allowed me to dive even deeper into the creative process which has been incredible. Devon has been an absolute gem to collaborate with and i’ve found it incredibly fulfilling to bring my creative vision to life in a tangible way with her. Together we made sure that we were crafting pieces that feel timeless yet personal, with a modern edge. One of the biggest surprises was how intricate and technical the design process was – from understanding materials to perfecting the tiny details of our design, and how long all of that takes! I also loved how collaborative the process was, working with Devon to create pieces that we both loved and really felt like an extension of me and my style/taste. I’m so excited for others to connect with these pieces as much as we have!
You’ve mentioned your love for statement jewellery. Can you tell us about the design elements of the Caitlin Ring and Caitlin Bangle, and how they reflect your personal style?
CW:Statement jewellery is such a key part of my personal style, and the Caitlin Ring and Bangle reflect that perfectly. When designing these pieces with Devon, I wanted to create bold, sculptural designs that felt both modern and timeless. This is why the Bangle and Ring both feature curves and texture in their design, while still remaining polished and sleek. And while I myself am I gold girl, I wanted to make sure that these pieces were available in gold and silver finishes so that no matter your preference, you could purchase and wear them. The ability to mix metals and stack pieces was also very important to me, so we’ve ensured that you can do both!
The Caitlin Bangle is a bold, chunky piece that’s also minimalist – making it a standout piece whether it’s worn alone or layered. The Caitlin Ring complements it beautifully, with a sleek, elegant design that’s comfortable to wear everyday. Every detail – from the weight and proportions to the polished finish – was carefully thought out to create pieces that not only make a statement but also feel effortless and wearable. These designs truly embody my approach to fashion: bold, thoughtful, and versatile, with a touch of understated luxury.
How did you find the design process for jewellery compared to your work in fashion? Were there any unexpected challenges or surprises along the way?
CW: As someone who’s used to curating and styling pieces, stepping into the role of a designer gave me a whole new appreciation for the craft. I’ve always loved putting looks together, but creating something from scratch—especially jewellery—was a completely different challenge which I found incredibly exciting,
One of the biggest surprises was how much precision goes into every detail. With the Caitlin Bangle and Ring, we had to really focus on getting the weight, curvature, and proportions just right to make sure they were produced exactly how we wanted them to be – beautiful, bold, and chunky, yet comfortable, light, and versatile for the wearer. It’s such a meticulous process, but that’s what makes these pieces truly special!
Devon, The Caitlin Ring and Bangle are crafted with durability in mind, combining fashion-forward designs with practical wearability. How did you approach creating pieces that balance both aesthetics and function?
DE: When designing the Caitlin Ring and Bangle, my main focus was on ensuring that the pieces not only looked beautiful and fashionable but were also designed with practical wearability and durability in mind. Aesthetics are important, of course, but I believe that jewellery should be something you can wear every day, something that lasts, and something that feels comfortable on the body.
In the design process, I made sure to consider how the pieces would sit on the wearer, how they would feel throughout the day, and how the materials would hold up to regular wear. We chose durable metals and thoughtful design elements that wouldn’t compromise on either style or function. For example, the Caitlin Ring is sculpted to fit comfortably on the finger without being bulky, and the Bangle has a sleek but bold, minimalist design that can be easily stacked or worn alone.
We also made sure that the pieces were versatile—something that could be dressed up for special occasions but also seamlessly incorporated into everyday wear. It was about creating designs that were forward-thinking but still practical, ensuring that they would stand the test of time, both in terms of design and durability. Ultimately, we wanted to offer jewellery that felt as good to wear as it looked, something that people could feel confident in day after day.
Having known Caitlin for so long, how did you both approach mixing her fashion sensibility with the signature craftsmanship of Silver Linings Collective?
DE: When it came to mixing Caitlin’s fashion sensibility with the signature craftsmanship of Silver Linings Collective, I completely left the design process in her hands. I trust her style implicitly, and I knew she would bring something fresh and unique to the table. My role was more about offering guidance from an industry perspective—helping to shape what was achievable, how certain pieces would sit and feel when worn, and what could realistically be produced within the constraints of our capabilities.
For me, it was important to create pieces like rings and bangles that would stand the test of time, both in terms of design and quality, and that people could wear and enjoy for years to come. Affordability was also key, especially considering the challenges everyone has faced this year, and Caitlin was really on board with that.
Once Caitlin shared her vision with me, I was able to bring it to life in a way that balanced her fashion sensibility with the longevity and craftsmanship that Silver Linings Collective is known for. She trusted me to take her ideas and make them a reality, and I think the result is a beautiful fusion of both our strengths.
A portion of the proceeds from this collection will benefit the NZ Cancer Society. How did you decide to support this cause, and what’s the significance behind this charitable element for both you and Caitlin?
DE: This is the first time Silver Linings Collective as a brand has been in a position where we can “give back,” and it felt only right to direct that support towards a cause that is deeply personal to both Caitlin and me. So many of us have been touched by cancer in some way—whether it’s a family member, a close friend, or someone in the community. For me, I lost my Nan, who I was incredibly close to, to lung cancer. Before that, she fought breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. She was one of the strongest, most stubborn women I’ve ever known, and her courage in the face of these battles has stayed with me.
For Caitlin, the loss of her dear mum to pancreatic cancer has been equally profound. When we started talking about this charitable element, it became clear that supporting the New Zealand Cancer Society would not only honour their memory but also give something back to a cause that affects so many people in our lives. Cancer is a battle that so many of us have fought, and we’ve seen firsthand the difference that the support of organisations like the Cancer Society can make for those going through their own journeys. It feels meaningful to us both to contribute in a way that might help others facing similar struggles.
This isn’t just a donation for us—it’s personal, and it’s a way for us to continue the legacies of those we’ve loved and lost. We’re grateful to be able to give back in this way, and we hope it can make a difference.
