What to wear for New Year’s Eve

As one of the most anticipated events on anyone’s social calendar, New Year’s Eve is more than just a mere celebration of a change of date— it’s a celebration of the good things in life. Being surrounded by friends and family, indulging in fine food and drink and of course, the fashion, makes this event wonderful. With a plethora of parties and soirées designed in its honour, New Year’s Eve is nothing short of a special sartorial occasion. To inspire you in your New Year’s outfit planning, we’ve rounded up some fabulous fashion, worthy of making an appearance in as you welcome in the new year. Here’s to a stylish 2018!

New Year's outfits

Pixel Top, $350 from Zambesi (left) and Honey Punch Cami Dress, $87.41 from ASOS (right).

It’s safe to say that sequins are a staple in New Years Eve fashion — and with good reason! They’re fun, eye-catching and, quantity dependent, they can add either a little or a whole lot of glitz to any look. For making a sparkly and colourful statement, we’re head over heels for Zambesi’s Pixel top with its different-sized, multi-coloured, hand-stitched sequins. For a more classic sequin-studded option, the Honey Punch Cami Dress with its large, round navy blue sequins is our top pick for something that’s eye-catching yet very wearable.

New Year's outfits

Natalie Chan Sylvie Skirt in Amethyst, $375 (left) and Keepsake Exhale Playsuit, $189.95 AUD (right).

A local label we can always turn to for gorgeous special occasion wear is none other than Parnell-based brand, Natalie Chan. With a focus on decadent and feminine fabrics, textures and embellishments, their boutique is packed full of gorgeous pieces perfect for New Year’s Eve soirees. To add a romantic spin to your New Year’s Eve look, choosing a tulle-textured garment like Natalie Chan’s tulle Sylvie Skirt in Amethyst as the centerpiece of your outfit is the way to go. The Sylvie skirt, which comes in a plethora of pretty colours and can be made to measure, is the ideal investment piece for occasion wear as it can seamlessly be mixed and matched into other outfits while keeping its romantic allure. Another beautifully textured garment that’s perfect for New Years is Keepsake’s Exhale playsuit. Made from a sheer black fabric and dotted with velvet spots, it’s the perfect mix between simple and sexy.

New year's outfits

LPA Pant 440 from Revolve Clothing, $327.01 (left) and ASOS Swing Cami with double Layer, $26.22 (right).

The key to starting your year off well is to start it off in sparkles — who begs to differ?! While most sparkly garments usually take the form of tops, dresses and accessories, embellished pants are the alternative sparkly statement pieces you didn’t know you needed. For a showstopping pair of party trousers, we love LPA’s Pant 440 in all its sparkling, beaded glory. Of course, we wouldn’t want to steal the sequin-riddled thunder from this piece so we recommend pairing it with something simple like ASOS’ simple, v-neck Swing Cami — a piece that’s surely going to come in handy for future looks!

New year's outfits

Juliette Hogan Twilight Slip, $419 (left) and C/MEO Collective’s Influential playsuit, $179.95 AUD (right).

With fine straps, a low-slung back and lined with 100% pure silk, this subtle yet shimmery dress is perfect for both wowing the crowd and staying cool on these balmy summer nights. Another neutrally-hued number that we’re loving for New Year’s wear is C/MEO Collective’s Influential playsuit in ‘Sand’. The draped crossover front is beautifully exaggerated by the sheen in the silky fabric that is perfect for flattering the wearers’ shape, making it a great playsuit for all kinds of body types and sizes!
