Vintage-inspired looks have been incredibly popular in fashion for nearly a decade now, with the impeccable sixties style from television show Mad Men starting a movement that continues to find favour with many fashion fans. Designer Vanessa Kelly is also an admirer of vintage-inspired fashion and her eponymous label has grown steadily in popularity since launching two years ago.

Kelly has been running her business from home up until recently, trading at markets and fairs as well as online, but next week she will begin an exciting new adventure when she opens her first shop as part of Victoria Park's Artisan Market. It's a bold but thrilling move for the former music teacher who gave up her job 18 months ago to focus on her blossoming fashion business. Although being self employed has meant that Kelly can enjoy the flexibility of working her own schedule and being available for all the busy times that come with being a mother of three.

One of the reasons fans keep coming back to Vanessa Kelly's label is each garment is one of a kind as the designer only purchases small amounts of fabric so the most you would see of any particular fabric is a dress and a skirt. "I like to use classic floral prints but also like to use quirky prints that you wouldn't necessarily think would be for women's clothing," says Kelly. "The styles that I create are simple, to let the fabric do the 'talking'. These simple styles mean they are easy to wear and are really an everyday wear garment that can be dressed up or down depending on the woman and the setting they want to wear them in."
