A cat may look at a Queen AW19 Collection from twenty-seven names. Images supplied.
Twenty-seven names released their sublime new Autumn/Winter 2019 collection today with the colourful range sure to be a hit with the brand’s many fans. Titled ‘A cat may look at a Queen’ we first saw the collection on the runway in a brilliant show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2018. Then and now, we’re struck by the vibrant colours and playfulness of these pieces which show designers Anjali Burnett’s and Rachel Easting’s considerable design skills and knack for impeccable tailoring.
For the designers, the collection is a voice to their former selves, spelled out in a letter that reads:
‘Dear Anjali and Rachel,
I feel like it would be helpful for you to know that your life will get better as you get older. These things you worry about now, they will fade until you can no longer remember them. You will realise that your own opinion is just as valid as the next person. Have confidence in your ideas and thoughts. Don’t look to others for their approval. Trade in kindness as a currency, it will get you very far. One day you will appreciate your mother, and everything she did just to put food on the table. One day you will meet the love of your life and I know you will struggle to believe this but it’s not going to be Daniel Johns. One day, with your best friend, and your small, smart team, your show will open NZFW, and that show will celebrate how beautiful differences are.
Love, from the future.
P.S hoverboards will not be a thing in 2018.’
From that sweet description you get a collection that is confident, charming and oh so covetable. Fun florals and cute cat prints mix beautifully with lady-like length dresses and ruffled tops. There is so much to love about this range it’s really hard to pick stand out pieces but the calf-grazing coats are suitably chic and we can’t help but fall for the winsome relaxed dresses which twenty-seven names always nail.
The first drop arrives today but there are more drops over the coming months with the full rainbow of green, blue, red, pink, yellow and TSN’s favourite navy offering joyful wardrobe options for the cooler months. The brand’s use of natural fabrics and clever recycled fabrics makes their garments a delight to wear and as with all twenty-seven names designs, they are made to last and will be worn and admired for seasons to come. Why wouldn’t you want to dress like the queen you are in this beautiful collection?
