There has been a strong movement towards supporting and shopping local recently in light of the current Covid-19 situation and this week there is a big online shopping night happening to support New Zealand fashion. Led by PR powerhouse Showroom 22, a group of leading designers, retailers and businesses are uniting on Thursday 14th May for Together Today to give a boost to the local fashion industry.
Over 100 local brands have signed up to be part of the project which will see New Zealand fashion’s best labels offer a range of special discounts, gifts with purchase and other perks over seven hours from 5pm to midnight. Every brand’s offer will be listed on Together Today’s website with all offers released on the day. There’s an impressive list of names taking part with Karen Walker, Zambesi, Allbirds, Kate Sylvester, Kathryn Wilson, RUBY and Barkers all on board and more fashion brands are signing up to take part each day.
The event was created by Showroom 22’s director, fashion PR expert Murray Bevan, who says the initiative’s goal is to provide a much needed “shot in the arm” to a sector that’s been particularly hard hit.
“I wouldn’t like to say the industry is on its knees but there are many of us who have had our heads in our hands a bit, for sure,” says Bevan. “Many of our local New Zealand designers have been left with enormous wholesale orders that either haven’t been shipped, have been cancelled or returned, as well as their own retail stock which hasn’t moved throughout April. But at the same time of course, people are wanting to buy local products, possibly more than ever before. Together Today will be a chance for New Zealand fashion to share its voice, and for fashion fans all over the country to show their support and snap up amazing deals from the country’s most loved designers and retailers.”
Among the long list of brands confirmed for the event are: Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Zambesi, Yu Mei, Deadly Ponies, Allbirds, Workshop, Helen Cherry, Elle and Riley, The Mercer Store, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Jasmin Sparrow, Caughley, Beach Knickers, Meadowlark, Federation, Lela Jacobs, Black Box, Kowtow, Mi Piaci, Overland, NOM*d, Barkers, Flo + Frankie, Kathryn Wilson, Miss Wilson, Andrea Biani, Bach Matakana, Wynn Hamlyn, Salasai, Ruby, Love & Object, iLabb, Hej Hej, Harris Tapper, Shjark, twenty-seven names, Asuwere, Hailwood, Commoners, Caitlin Crisp, Superette, Laing Home and Staple + Cloth, Plume, Repertoire, Treasure Box, Common Ground, Vania jewellery, Good As Gold, Layla Kaisi, Vink and Loclaire.
To sweeten the shopping experience one lucky fashion fan will win a state of the art Fisher & Paykel washing machine ($3449) and dryer ($3229) to help look after their new clothes for a lifetime. Shoppers are able to enter the draw by entering their email address on the competition page of the Together Today website.
Showroom 22 realised the importance of industry solidarity with this project and have corralled several major PR and communications agencies including Someday Studios, Public Library, Pead PR, Campbell & Co and Hustle & Bustle to work on the project.
Together Today promises to be the biggest online shopping night for New Zealand fashion in a very long time and is a great way to show your support (if you’re able to) for our wonderful Kiwi brands.
