Looks from Lee Mathews’ new Resort 23 collection
2023 marks an opportunity to explore fresh style choices, and we’re currently enamoured with Sydney-based designer Lee Mathews. The former illustrator and art director (for Vogue Australia) started making clothes for herself and her friends on the kitchen table to discover that her determination to “simply make good things” was not exclusive to her own desires.
The Lee Mathews brand has gone on to enjoy success both in Australia and New Zealand, as well as being sold through respected international platforms. With a key focus around high-quality natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silk, it is the finely honed eye for detail that sets the brand apart.
Delivering clothes that are both functional and beautiful, Lee Mathews pieces are renowned for being infused with a sense of ageless simplicity.
The Resort 23 collection, now available in-store and online, offers a rare fusion of elements, somehow managing a harmonious partnership of sophistication, confidence, and a sense of playfulness.
From relaxed maxi dress offerings in the signature Lee Mathews voluminous silhouette to thoughtful pleating, tucking, and panelling and a fascinating contrast between structured tailoring and flowing lines, the collection is delightfully refreshing.
Then there’s the LM Archive Monogram Dress – a statement piece designed as an ode to the past and featuring an archive LM print designed by artist Christina Zimpel, along with balloon sleeves, a tiered skirt, and pleating throughout.
It’s the finer details that elevate this collection into something acutely memorable. The elegant Teddy Dress is made from 100% cotton with a unique jacquard fabrication that details a custom artwork inspired by the Lee Mathews office dog Ted and his favourite things. There’s a wonderful juxtaposition in this love letter to Ted that sits perfectly at ease with the raised frilled collar, precise tucking and panelling, and ultra-feminine silhouette.
The Teddy Dress is beautifully executed with a delightful print that, at closer inspection, is an ode to the office dog Ted and his favourite things
The Lee Mathews Resort Collection is online and in-store now, along with the SS23 Collection.
