The Hair Guru to the rescue!

hairguruDear Petra

My hair is definitely suffering from the sun, sand, surf, colour, and straighteners! I need help! I’m a Leo the lion so nothing is more important to me than my mane. But right now it is long, very thin and very slow-growing. Please, what can I use?

– Donna

Ahhhhhhhh hair 101 required! Right – action stations – you need salon treatments, brushing every night, good products and a good hair cut. However you must start with the basics.

Just remember that sand mixed with surf is the ultimate exfoliation – on your cuticles – NO! So you must try to use sun protectors and rinse you hair after you’re out of the water so the salt and sand are removed. A moisture surge for you would be Redken All Soft Shampoo , Conditioner and Gold Glimmer Perfecting Shine Treatment . I would also recommend Kerastase Serum Nutri-Sculpt – leave in.

Dear Petra

My hair is damaged due to dyeing. I use conditioner after shampooing. Please tell me how to restore my hair – it was beautiful.

You may find that colouring at home versus colouring at a salon will make a huge difference. Salon colours like L’Oréal Professionnel are designed to actually improve the condition of the hair with ingredients like Ceramides and Ionene G.

If the damage is from lightening then we need to talk rebuilding. Either way, here are some sure-fire ways to improve your hair: regular cuts and treatments at your Rodney Wayne salon – remember what you take out must be put back in! Brush your hair before going to bed EVERY night – spread those essential oils and polish the cuticle.

Don’t tie your hair back wet or over-iron the hair when you have excessively coloured hair and lastly, remember if your skin burns so does your hair – use products like the Kerastase Soleil range to protect and prevent damage.

Dear Petra

For those of us with extremely thick wirey hair that straighten (with GHDs) quite often, what’s the best split ends treatment? Or moisture boost? Also, which shampoo would you recommend? Thanks heaps.

– Melanie

I am so glad you are on the hunt because constant ironing can really dehydrate the hair. When styling you need to pre-blowave with an oil for wire-like hair – I recommend Kerastase Elixir Oleo-Relax.

Then whilst ironing each section, spray to protect with L'Oreal Professionnel tecni.art hot style constructor. Treat your hair to salon rituals – they are stronger than any take home product – but at home support your new regime by alternating Kerastase Aqua-Oleum and Forcintense.

If your hair is long I would love you to start using Kerastase Bain Age Recharge and Masque Age Recharge – this is for the age of the hair only; I promise your hair will return to its former glory!
