The Bold and the Browless

Ok, so every now and then fashion doesn’t make sense, we get that… and beauty doesn’t always have the brightest ideas either but bleached or shaved eyebrows, really?

Unless you have naturally light brows that you can play up, this browless trend should be a no-go! It’s Queen Elizabeth meets avant-garde fashion, and I'm thinking you've got to be pretty daring to make the full attempt. To be honest, I think this is one beauty trend I won’t be giving a go – I love my brows, I don’t think I can quite pull of the alien like look that being browless gives you!

The trend seems to be popping up everywhere, take for instance the latest Givenchy print ad, Adriana Lima leads a pack of browless beauties and in the pages of a magazine I love it, but on the street its more likely to frighten your boyfriend than look hot.

“There is an asexual element to no eyebrows. . . It’s an exercise in modernity.” I can't help but be reminded of David Bowie's Aladdin Sane years and, of course, '90s model Kristen McMenamy”, when she shaved her arches, her modeling career took off. On the topic of McMenamy she appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia in all her browless glory back in May 1992 and again this month.

Eyebrows have also been slowly but surely disappearing from many high profile catwalks, for spring 2010 the look is practically mainstream.

Prada and Balenciaga also made it a big part of their last autumn/winter collections.

According to M.A.C Senior Artist Romero Jennings, bleached out brows are thanks to the early punk rock era. “It's that punky, junky late 70s, early 80s thing that women did.”

And then there's Kim Kardashian, who debuted a browless look on her Twitter site. “This look was inspired by the movie twilight and Prada's fall runway show and it is so unlike anything I've ever done! And no, I didn't actually get rid of my eyebrows, haha. We used an eyebrow concealing wax to hide them!”

If you are brave enough to give this look a go try using M.A.C Duo Lash Adhesive on your brows, and going over them with powder foundation in a shade that matches your skin tone. At least this way with a little soap and water, your brows will easily reappear.

So would you go for the browless look, or do you like your brows just the way they are, visible?
