There’s no doubting that summer is a truly glorious season. The days are longer, the temperatures are warmer and of course, the festivities are in full swing! From casual get togethers, pool parties to summer barbeques and everything in-between, it’s safe to say that with the sunshine comes an endless array of events that call for an outfit for the occasion. No matter what sun-filled frivolities lie ahead for you this summer, we’ve gone and scouted the must-have pieces you’ll need for a stylish summer.
Doris Swimsuit in Black Sparkle, $215 from Lonely (left) and Andie One Piece, $228.28 from Tori Praver (right).
The One Piece
No conversation about summertime fashion is complete without a special mention of swimwear! When it comes to catching waves at the beach or making a splash at a pool party, one pieces are certainly a practical option. Of course, practicality doesn’t have to compromise prettiness and Lonely’s Doris Swimsuit in Black Sparkle and Tori Praver’s Andie One Piece are our favourite examples of this. Both of these gorgeous numbers look stunning by themselves and can be paired under high-waisted shorts for a glam poolside outfit.
Life Bandeau & Cheeky Hipster Bikini, $167 from Camilla (left) and Laguna Crop Kini, $139.95 from Domi D (right).
The Bikini
Another summertime beach bag staple is none other than the bikini. Resor twear veterans, Camilla, have done it again and released yet another collection of gorgeous bikinis in their signature kaleidoscope prints. We’ve got our hearts set on their Still Life Bandeau & Cheeky Hipster Bikini set with its busy and bold print. Pair this bikini with its matching sarong, an oversized floppy hat and big sunglasses for the ultimate beachside glamour look.
We’re also head over heels for the Laguna Crop Kini by Domi D. Made with crochet, this bikini is the perfect way to channel your inner bohemian beach babe. While the detailing in the crochet is certainly not to be distracted from, we’d pair this piece with a printed kimono cover up in the sun or rock this with a pair of denim shorts at a pool party.
Tinker Tailor pants, $239 from COOP (left) and Gravity Pants, $145 from LEO+BE (right).
The Wide-Legged Pants
While long pants might not usually be synonymous with summer-time style, COOP’s Tinker Tailor trousers are a glamorous summer staple worth investing in for this season and beyond. Complete with a classic, pleated high-waist and bold stripes, these pants give a St Tropez-inspired, summery spin to the trendy wide-legged pants that we’ve seen and loved over the last winter. In addition, they’re made from a breathable and lightweight fabric, which not only makes them billow beautifully when you move, but also helps you keep your cool and keep your pins away from the sunrays!
Another prime example of why the wide-legged pants trend shouldn’t be limited to the cooler months is LEO+BE’s Gravity Pants. Featuring a botanical print, these cotton poplin pants are as breathable as they are eye-catching. Complete with a chunky waist tie and super handy side pockets, these pants are the perfect way of sprucing up a casual, summertime outfit.
Strawberry Playsuit, $229 from Ruby (left) and No Reason Playsuit, $199.95 from Keepsake (right).
The Party Playsuit
There’s no denying that playsuits are the epitome of effortlessly chic summertime fashion. They come in in every shape, size and colour imaginable and are always a breeze to style! High up on our lust-list this summer is Ruby’s fun Strawberry Playsuit. With its gently nipped-in waist and v-neckline complete with gold button closure, this playsuit nods to yesteryear’s glamorous summerwear and is the perfect piece to wear to all your sun-filled parties. Dress it up with a pair of heels and golden accessories or keep it simple with a slick pair of sandals and a sunhat.
Another flirty playsuit we just can’t keep our eyes off is Keepsake’s No Reason Playsuit. With its loosely filled bustier and off-the-shoulder sleeves, this pretty little number makes a subtle statement and radiates femininity. Its neutral blush tone also makes this playsuit adaptable to all kinds of styling; glam it up with some gold, silver or even rose-gold sparkly jewellery, give it a bohemian spin with some flowers in your hair, or let the playsuit take centre stage by pairing with black or nude stilettos and minimalist accessories.
Sunny Crop and Sunny Skirt, $129 and $199 from Ruby (left) and Celeste Stripe Shorts and Top, $69.95 and $59.95 from The Fifth (right).
The Two-Piece Ensemble
We’re big fans of matching summer two-piece ensembles for two reasons: they look undeniably striking when they’re worn together and the individual pieces also lend themselves to even more styling possibilities when worn separately! One ensemble we’re seriously currently crushing on is Ruby’s Sunny Crop and Sunny Skirt. Made from a light and breathable 100% cotton fabric, this ensemble is the quintessential simple and chic outfit that has us dreaming of summertime spent frolicking through lavender fields in the French Provence.
We’re also obsessing over the Celeste Stripe Short and Top by The Fifth with it’s cute crop top and high waisted shorts. While the two items give off a pin-up inspired vibe when worn together, they also lend themselves to a multitude of looks when separately styled! Pair the top with a long, floaty summer skirt for a more bohemian inspired ensemble or rock the shorts with a bikini top for some poolside chic-ness!
Zodiac Dress, $198 from Leo+Be (left) and Atomic Dress in Lavender, $360 from Miss Crabb (right).
The Sundress
Whether you’re heading to a summer lunch or a picnic in the park, you can’t go wrong with a simple sundress! For a chic, simple and versatile and oh-so-summery dress, we love Leo + Be’s Zodiac Dress. The off-the-shoulder details are both on trend and ideal for keeping cool in the sun and the light, lacey, embroidered eyelet fabric adds a touch of simple elegance to the dress. For a pop of colour, we love Miss Crabb’s Atomic Dress in lavender. Complete with a low cut, v-neck at the back, this light and loose-fitting sundress is what dreams are made of.
Pioneer Hat, $80 from Karen Walker (left) and Julie Sandal in Silver, $299 from Kathryn Wilson (right).
The Finishing Touches
A dramatically large floppy hat never goes amiss in the summer! Karen Walker’s Pioneer Hat is the perfect choice for keeping your self both sun smart, and ultra stylish with it’s natural and blue straw colour blocking. As for your feet, keep them styled in Kathryn Wilson’s Julie Sandal. While these sandals are a classic silhouette, the metallic finishing adds a touch of je-ne-sais-quoi and has just enough heel to give you some height, without compromising comfort.
