Ted McGill founded Lord Edward Linen in 2016 after deciding to turn his personal obsession with linen into a business which offers high quality men’s and womenswear. He has a background in sales and marketing and knew the simple yet versatile look he was after in linen clothing. Ted’s vision to produce everyday essential pieces in linen that are also affordably priced has helped Lord Edward Linen grow a loyal following already.

We caught up with Ted to find out more about his brand, what inspires him and what you would never catch him wearing!

Tell us about your latest collection?
Our latest collection is a women’s summer range that is really relaxed and simple. All pieces can be dressed up or down and are in neutral Lord Edward colours like white or blue. Our Harry high pants are great, as they can be accompanied by almost anything. They look great with our crop tops as well.

What made you become a designer?
I started off with an interest in men’s linen clothing. I always like to look and more importantly feel good. Linen is so soft and easy on the skin, it also breathes so well in Summer. I wanted to try my hand at designing a few items and see how I go!

What inspires you?
Initially other brands inspired me. Now it’s more about what is on trend and what can I produce that fits our brief. “stylish and versatile”.  That and I have a strong connection with the beach, I feel it resets the soul. So I like to stay along that beachy vibe.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
My personal style is relaxed but well executed. You’ll always see me in a soft linen shirt. Depending where I am it could be with a pair of jean shorts and thongs, or dressed right up with some chinos and loafers. I’m a big fan of accessories also, watches, bracelets, necklaces. I feel they can really be used to individualise an outfit.

What is your all-time favourite purchase?
A leather jacket from an op shop actually a couple of years ago. It cost me $25 and is one of my favourite things that I own.

What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
Hands down a good quality Linen shirt. Men’s or womens they are perfect in Summer. It’s dressy or casual and breathes so well.

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Always dress to the occasion. If you are popping up to the shops or the beach dress accordingly but don’t be caught out looking like a bum for something that doesn’t call for it. You can be comfortable and still look good. In saying that if it’s first thing in the morning and I need to walk the dogs? All rules are out the window.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
All the sample clothing my wife and I try out. We are very proud of our wardrobes haha.

What can’t you live without?
The beach, my wife and my two english bulldogs Winston and Clementine.

Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
Crocs or flannel. I bought a pair of crocs once to see what the fuss was about and they never made it out of the box.
