Rebecca Maguire from Harry & Co. Image supplied.
Rebecca Maguire is the designer and founder behind elegant handbag label Harry & Co. which she launched in 2013. The brand came about because Rebecca couldn’t find the right stylish yet practical bag that she wanted to carry so she decided to create her own. Her luxurious bags don’t have a luxury price tag even though they’re hand-made with leather sourced from New Zealand and Europe. They’re the perfect accessory for the modern woman on the go as they’re as practical as they are chic.
We caught up with Rebecca to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!
Tell us about your latest collection?
Autumn/Winter 18 we explored new leather textures and embossing techniques- using Italian cow skin. Vintage Tans and a beautiful new Khaki/Olive colour has been introduced to the palette in some of our signature styles and some winning new silhouettes too. The Nina bag is my favourite for the season.
What made you become a designer?
The desire to create something that you couldn’t already find in the market. Having ideas that I really wanted to bring to life.
What inspires you?
Textures, fabrics, colours, travel, People, interiors.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
It’s changed quite a bit since I’ve had two boys. These days its a juggling act and my wardrobe reflects that idea. I enjoy wearing natural fibres and invest in fewer, lasting items.
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
I have a fascination with scent and perfume and have a collection of some truly unique scents. Last year I treated myself to some Le Labo perfume, which they create and personalise for you in store. I really love the beautiful bottles too, I’m a sucker for great packaging.
What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
A great handbag (of course) and a great jacket. I have a leather jacket I bought in Tokyo ten years ago which I totally still thrash.
Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Not really, however I feel like less is more suits my aesthetic. I really enjoy quite monochromatic colours, especially Black! I love handbags, shoes and accessories and use this as a way to be a bit more adventurous with texture and colour.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I’ve been very lucky that my work has taken me to some amazing places around the world – Barcelona and Tokyo are my favourites – but being able to launch my own handbag brand in Harry & Co is hard to beat.
What can’t you live without?
My family.
Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
