Style File: Jojo Ross

Designer Jojo Ross.

Jojo Ross launched her eponymous womenswear label in late 2015, after having been recognised by international launchpad Not Just A Label as one of the top 100 emerging designers in the world in 2014. Her style takes its cue from sci-fi and futurism while still being wearable and appealing to women of many ages.

We caught up with Jojo to find out more about her latest collection, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!

Tell us about your latest collection?
“B-2” is my spring/summer 16/17 collection. Inspiration hails largely from my obsession with Northrop Grumman’s B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber. It’s the most incredible looking aircraft, so unusually formed it’s almost otherworldly. My fascination with this bomber manifested itself in this collection from two entirely different strains of thought. I love the B-2’s form, the aerodynamic lines, the sci-fi like technology, the steel and the speed. And on the flipside, I love watching a plane moving soundlessly through the sky: I love flying amongst fluffy white clouds looking upon a miniature world below and I love the naïve notion of wanting to fly. It’s a curious combination of this Top Gun-esque bravado collided with the ephemeral feel of flying. The collection itself is stripped back and minimal. It combines sclulptured, aerodynamic forms and heavy metal hardware with soft pinks, cloudy prints and feminine lines.

What made you become a designer?
I often get asked this question and i’m just not quite sure! I was such a tomboy in my youth, but I always was doing something a bit twisted with my style. My earliest memories I can associate with wanting to become a designer are not from a love of fashion but wanting to be something different. I’ve always been creative, always been a dreamer, and always been so inspired. And eventually it manifested itself into fashion.

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
I can’t say I do but I really should, a rule like not being as sloppy as I am at the moment. Creating fashion day and night can do terrible things to one’s style.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Not Just a label flew me to Italy to show my work alongside their 100 best emerging designers in the world. That was such a wild experience and seriously humbling.

What can’t you live without?
My boyfriend and my best friend. We make a great team! And wine.

Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
