Jessica Greetham recently released her debut collection of knitwear and silk basics for her eponymous brand which enables her to share her love of hand-knitted pieces via her online store. Her new label is also available at Amber Whitecliffe’s Parnell boutique where Jessica has worked as designer Amber Whitecliffe’s design assistant for the past few years since graduating from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. Jessica draws inspiration for her pieces from her appreciation of landscapes and from past and present muses.

We caught up with Jessica to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!

Tell us about your latest collection?
Winter 2017 is my debut knitwear collection, it features beautiful hand-knitted garments and accessories made out of the softest wool in vibrant magenta and steel blue. It’s all about timeless and effortless knitwear that you want to live in.

What made you become a designer?
I have always loved designing and creating things but I guess I was influenced by my grandmother – she was a dressmaker, knitter and crocheter. My dad still has a jumper that she knitted for him when he was in his 20s! When I was in high school I used to spend my school holidays interning for Misty Lang, where I realised that I definitely wanted to pursue a career in fashion design.

What inspires you?
Travel and nature are my biggest inspirations – I love travelling to a new destination and being inspired by the environment, culture and architecture. I always end up with a ton of photos from me being too snap happy when I find something that inspires me.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
I tend to wear jeans a lot but I love a good outer wear piece – whether that be an oversized sweater, a leather jacket or a bright tailored coat! I tend to design garments that I would want to wear and I wanted the pieces to be something that you could throw on casually with a pair of jeans or over your favourite slip dress.

What is your all-time favourite purchase?
It’ll have to be my Alexander Wang Rocco bag, I’ve used it everyday since I’ve bought it. It’s the perfect sized bag to fit everything.

What wardrobe item should every woman invest in?
Can I name more than one? Every woman needs to invest in a good pair of black skinny jeans, heeled ankle boots, plain grey t-shirt and a woollen jumper! They’re the kind of wardrobe essentials that go with anything and everything.

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
I don’t really have a style rule, but if you don’t feel comfortable in it, don’t wear it.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My career is only just beginning! But I love seeing photos of people wearing my knitwear and being able to do something that I’m passionate about everyday.

What can’t you live without?
My friends and family, they’ve been so supportive from the beginning. Oh and my laptop – it has everything on it, I think we’re all a bit too dependent on technology these days.

Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
My glasses and beanie at the same time – I end up looking like Wally.
