Designer Jarrad Godman.
Jarrad Godman is a talented emerging designer on the rise whose spectacular show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2016 in collaboration with Servilles cemented him as one to watch. Jarrad graduated from AUT’s celebrated fashion programme in 2014 and has quickly become known for his experimental yet feminine style of womenswear that embraces intellectual ideas and luxurious fabrics.
We caught up with Jarrad to find out more about his brand, what inspires him and what you would never catch him wearing!
Tell us about your latest collection?
The collection for AW2017 is based around recreating my mindset whilst I was on a hungover search for coffee during a trip to Buenos Aires last year. I was unable to speak the language and my phone had died, so it was an interesting journey. In the collection itself, I experimented with missing panels, raw edges, frayed silk and exposed skin.
What made you become a designer?
I am not exactly sure what made me become a designer or even what sparked my interest, but my earliest memories mainly consist of me making new outfits for my younger sister’s Barbies.
What inspires you?
I take most of my inspiration from psychology, I am obsessed with how the brain can be manipulated by our surroundings.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your brand?
My personal style is very minimal, cropped trousers and a plain tee. Add in a cool oversized jacket during the colder months and I’m set. It is almost like a uniform, making less decisions around my own wardrobe means I can spend more time making decisions for a new collection, and I want that for my customers. I want them to be able to effortlessly throw on my designs and face the day ahead.
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
This is a major toss up between an oversized silk shirt by Jimmy D that I pretty much tore from a runway back in 2011 and my Miu Miu frames, I spent ages tracking them down and finding them was a very happy moment.
What wardrobe item should every woman invest in?
A great pair of sunglasses, they can lift any outfit.

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Try anything once and never say never.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Teaming up with the crew at Servilles. They are such a talented bunch of people and Paul has been one of my biggest supports. We’ve shown together in China and a couple of times here in Auckland
What can’t you live without?
My cat, Ackermann. I am pretty sure he loves to hate me but the workroom wouldn’t be the same without him.
Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
Any form of “meninist” apparel. I know I said never say never, but this is an exception.
