Havilah Koledoye launched her eponymous womenswear label Havilah in July this year and recently debuted her brand on the runway in the New Gen show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2018. The talented young designer had been showcasing her designs since the age of 14 and created her label to make ‘unapologetic fashion, the kind that turns heads while empowering the women who wear them’.
We caught up with Havilah to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!
Tell us about your latest collection?
This Trans Seasonal 18 collection titled Unapologetic is about pushing the boundaries of what was once considered feminine. Creating Unapologetic fashion, the kind that turns heads with indirect assertiveness and exploring empowerment through the creative process.
What made you become a designer?
Born in London and having spent time in South Africa, I was surrounded by an abundance of colours and textures that ultimately influenced my decision to study Fashion. I’ve constantly been on the lookout for opportunities to showcase my work.
What inspires you?
I’m constantly inspired by Art, Music and Architecture. A lot of my work is named after the songs, buildings and art pieces that I was influenced by when designing them.
Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
Layering is a key part of my personal style along with print and block colours which seems to carry through into my designs. I’ll always have one textured layer and an accessory in hand!
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
My Miniature Schnauzer, I saved up to get her for a year and she was my first dog.
What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
At least one bold outerwear garment! For me, it’s almost half the wardrobe but I’ve always been obsessed with having a bold blazer, bomber and trenchcoat no matter the weather.
Do you have a style rule you always obey?
There are no rules!
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Being a part of a pop-up store in Wellington and meeting people that have followed and supported my label. Watching them come in and purchase my collection, it’s such a humbling and proud experience.
What can’t you live without?
Family and creativity.
