Danielle Power-Silk debuted her eponymous label as part of the New Generation show at New Zealand Fashion Week last year with her elegant, feminine designs catching attention for all the right reasons. The young designer has been focusing on a career as a fashion designer since she was 14 and has goals to see her label sold internationally and have her own retail stores. Her debut collection is currently available from Hudson Boutique, 3a O’Connell Street, Auckland City.
We caught up with Danielle to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!
Tell us about your latest collection?
Season One presents ten beautiful, feminine and sensuous looks that can transcend from day to evening. Two of my favourite fabrications in this collection include a stunning black wool with white Spanish embroidery followed by an Italian silk in rich teal.
What made you become a designer?
To show the woman’s form at its finest.

What inspires you?
Women inspire me. Coco Chanel, Monica Bellucci and Amal Clooney to name a few. I am inspired by luxurious cloth, art, photography, film, music, literature, landscapes, nature, architecture, love and travel. I am greatly inspired by Italy and the United Arab Emirates, being part Sicilian and Lebanese I am looking forward to breaking in to the international market with my designs.
Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
My personal style is classic and feminine. I don’t design anything that I wouldn’t wear myself.
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
My Prada dusky pink leopard frames from OPSM.
What wardrobe item should every woman invest in?
Shoes! Shoes make or break the outfit.

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
I always wear beautiful lingerie, for me when it comes to fashion and dressing fit is the most important thing and perfume no matter what.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Showing my collection at New Zealand Fashion Week, selling my designs to boutiques, seeing my designs hanging with national and international designers. It is so satisfying seeing your creations in store on mannequins with your labels in the garments.
What can’t you live without?
Self expression.
