Greg Fromont and Claire Hammon from Meadowlark Jewellery.
Designer Claire Hammon founded Meadowlark Jewellery with her husband Greg Fromont in 2006 and the coveted brand is celebrating their tenth anniversary this month. A decade in the tumultuous fashion business is a huge achievement and the couple have a unique flair for design which has seen their handcrafted pieces worn by the likes of Lorde and Rihanna.
We caught up with Claire to find out more about their latest collection, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!
Tell us about your latest collection?
Stratus is our most minimal collection, almost every piece is handmade rather than cast so there is a lot more work in each piece than most of our archive. We were inspired by the classic hoops worn by Sade and everything stemmed from that.
What made you become a designer?
It’s just in my bones, it’s not a choice, it’s just literally all I know. I have made a living from designing things since I was 16 and I can’t help it.
What inspires you?
Inspiration can be hard to find but I am mostly inspired by architecture, inspiration changes every season and sometimes ideas seem to come from nowhere – just the rare stillness inside the mind.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your brand?
My personal style is very simple & practical, mostly black – comfortable & not fussy although I do love a frill. Details are my thing, so I am drawn to things that are well made & have exceptional details that aren’t obvious to anyone but me. I think my style influences the brand when it comes to campaigns – I do try to push them further towards the fashion I like rather than what we are used to seeing locally.
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
I don’t think I could name a single item that is my all time fave – my top 3 would be my diamante encrusted Margiela boots & my Proenza Schouler woven PS1 bag and my Acne leather jacket.
What wardrobe item should every woman invest in?
A good bag, good shoes & a good jacket.
Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Less is more.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I can’t say any one thing stands out – it’s been a continuous journey of small successes & some lessons learned along the way. All from a lot of hard work.
What can’t you live without?
My husband & daughter.
Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing… Orange.
