Designer Cait Farrow. Image supplied.
Cait Farrow is the designer behind womenswear label Clove which is all about comfortable pieces that have a laidback charm. Cait created the label after the arrival of her second child when she was figuring out how to dress herself again and was wanting easy to wear garments with comfort a priority. The designer makes each piece herself here in NZ, with her collection available online and made to order.
We caught up with Cait to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!

This collection is called: Somewhere.
A growing, accumulative collection flowing from Autumn to Winter. A journey of roots and discovery, breaking confines and finding clarity.
The angles and drape of these over sized pieces, are made to flatter your form. The idea is to throw them on and feel like the best version of yourself.
What made you become a designer?
I can’t give you a light bulb moment for how it all started, being a designer has just always been the dream.
I have a deep love for the creative process; the freedom that comes with envisioning, experimenting and building something from a flat piece of cloth. There is nothing else that gives me such fulfillment.
What inspires you?
A lot of things inspire me. Most of my creativity comes down to a mood, a form, a fabric I’ve seen or just spending time in nature; all can speak to me in different ways.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
I dress in a very relaxed way. Nothing too fussy. I like comfort, a little bit of edge and a little bit of feminine all mixed together.
The way I design is very much the same. I experiment a lot with shapes and lean towards a more oversized style; yet with flattering drape. It is my aim to create clothing that women feel confident in and find really easy to wear.
What is your all-time favourite purchase?
A vintage jacket that I saved up for, more than a few years ago. I am obsessed with its tonal layers and the fact you can feel it’s vintage-ness.
What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
A bomber type jacket. They always add a bit of personality and attitude to an outfit.
Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Not overly, I tend to change it up depending on my taste at the time.

Definitely building Clove and getting it out there, I am excited to see where it leads.
What can’t you live without?
My kids, my family and creating.
Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
Uncomfortable clothes. You need to be able to live in them so they have to make you feel good.
