The release of Stretton‘s Autumn/Winter 2020 collection called Gypsy Fair marks a new era at the Stretton Group for mother and daughter design duo, Annah and Sami Stretton. Annah Stretton launched her eponymous brand 30 years ago and this season sees daughter Sami take the reins as key designer of the womenswear brand.
Sami also becomes General Manager as well as co-designer of Stretton, while Founder and CEO Annah concentrates on philanthropic efforts, through her Foundation. To date, the Annah Stretton Foundation has established three charities, all of which aim to build the confidence and capabilities of individuals and organisations. RAW helps socially disadvantaged women break the cycle of intergenerational offending. Kia Puāwai, is a group wellness programme to overcome obesity and other health challenges. And The Good Collective focuses on impact and sustainability in the Waikato charitable sector.
The new Stretton collection has been designed by both Strettons and draws inspiration from a classic Cher song ‘Gypsy’s, Tramps & Thieves,’ that is one of Annah’s favourites. The popular hit describes a colourful fairgrounds and travelling gypsies which is brought to life by the contrasting prints, patterns and colour of this collection.
As always, wearability is key and it wouldn’t be a Stretton collection without lots of charming dresses. This season sees lots of classic dress styles including wrap styles, v-necklines and midi lengths that are easily worn by lots of different body shapes and sizes. The hero dress for the collection is the ‘Maggie magnolia dress’ which features an eye-catching mix of gingham and floral prints with flutter sleeves and bow tie neckline detailing.
There’s lots of great tops, jackets pants and skirts in this collection too with the colourful prints and stripes continuing on versatile pieces that make for easy office to evening looks. The range is anchored by classic black pieces that are always popular in New Zealand and make transitioning into the cooler season even easier.
