Starving Artists Fund will present the Independent show on August 21st. Image supplied.
Starving Artists Fund are known for their socially conscious, gender neutral take on fashion and on August 21st they will present the Independent show in Auckland, which showcases their take on fashion alongside other emerging brands and artists. The show has been created in collaboration with Us Places and is run by women of colour, with a focus on a multidisciplinary approach to fashion.
Eschewing the traditional runway show model with a seated audience, the event kicks off at 2pm and runs until 7pm with a range of live performers and DJs keeping the crowd entertained, and of course some fashion shows too. Starving Artists Fund founder and creative director Natasha Ovely sees it as a challenge to the existing format of runway shows while presenting a fresh perspective and making it open to the general public. There’s no red tape, no hierarchy and no sitting still.
Alongside Starving Artists Fund, the fashion labels presenting at the Independent show are Kerry Brack, Su Mar the Label, HAMS the Label, RHYANA, Nicole Van Vuuren and Jenny Ruan. Each one will present their thoughtful and contemporary take on fashion offering attendees the chance to get excited about the fresh new perspectives of some of our leading emerging talent.
Tickets are available now from Eventbrite.
