Thoughtful beauty is alive and well, and throughout August, Mecca Beauty is shining the spotlight on brands with a commitment to sustainable packaging, refillable products, and mindful make-up.
At a recent Meccalife event, FashioNZ took a closer look at many of these exciting brands (stay tuned – there’ll be more on this over the coming weeks).
Home-grown innovator Emma Lewisham has recently joined the Mecca Beauty team and spoke at the event on taking sustainability a step further and focusing on circular beauty, while dynamic Australian founder of Conserving Beauty Natassia Niccolau spoke about her water-conscious beauty brand (it makes history as Australia’s first waterless beauty brand).
We also met another new member of the Mecca Beauty family – kit: (you’ll want to get to know them better, we promise).
From heaven scent fragrances from Floral Street and Ellis Brooklyn and hand massages from Flamingo Estate, Sans [cueticals], and Costa Brazil to a make-up masterclass with swoon-worthy products (at the hands of Mecca makeup masters), it was a day of indulgence, but more, importantly, it was also a day for celebrating inspirational brands with mindfulness, thoughtfulness, sustainability, and care – for each other and for the planet – at their heart.
Plus, we all played a small part, too, thanks to the Mecca TerraCycle station where empty beauty containers could be recycled. All Mecca stores now have an in-store TerraCycle bin (made from 100% post-consumer waste) for end-of-life product packaging that can’t be recycled via kerbside collection.
And kudos to the Mecca Beauty team for repurposing the delectable array of display flowers and vegetables as take-home gifts. Hello ginger smoothie and yummy roast brussels sprouts (polarising, we know!)
