Spark launches Fashion Month

Creative Auckland will have access to the top names in fashion this February, as Spark Lab in Britomart launches its first Fashion Month.

Throughout February, Spark Lab will host 14 free events from leading figures across the fashion industry, giving aspiring designers or simply those interested in fashion up-close and personal access to leading industry figures and mentors – unlocking industry secrets and unleashing new creative ideas.

The line-up will range from show and tells with international fashion icons I Love Ugly and Levi’s, to an exclusive session with Juliette Hogan, and a hands-on workshop with M.A.C Cosmetics.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to design their very own custom Huffer T-shirt, win a shopping spree and styling session with Zambesi, and discover the insider secrets to developing a career in fashion magazine editing.

Spark Lab is open to everyone and allows the community to get involved in the creation of new ideas and experiences. Spark believes this hands-on access to mentors is of huge benefit to young New Zealanders starting out in niche industries like fashion.

Spark CEO for Home, Mobile and Business, Chris Quin, says Spark Lab is about giving people room to explore, create and unleash their potential.

"In recent years we have seen explosion of young talent and innovation developing across our creative industries. Spark Lab is all about cultivating this creativity and nurturing more Kiwi entrepreneurship in this sector.

Fashion Month at Spark Lab will enable those who are just starting out, or who have a love of fashion, to get up-close with their favourite fashion icons, to pick their brains and inspire their own career dreams.”

Quin says Spark Lab embodies the newly rebranded company's "Never Stop Starting" philosophy and emphasised it is not limited to industry newcomers or Spark customers.

"This is about bringing people together to collaborate and explore new ideas, so while we may have a few customer-only events, for the most part Spark Lab is open to everyone."Spark Lab launched last November with Music Month – see the highlights here. In 2015, the spotlight is being placed on fashion, technology, photography and design.

Spark Lab is itself the result of a collaboration between Spark and Shine Limited. Events are all free to attend but are expected to fill up fast. RSVPs for fashion month open today.
