Skintopia Khandallah opens in Wellington tomorrow 5th April, with the new Skintopia Skin Centre the third North Island presence for the brand. Skintopia is known for expert advice and results driven, scientifically based skin treatments and offers high quality and thoughtfully curated skincare and wellness products.

The Khandallah Skintopia Skin Centre joins Skintopia’s Auckland premises in Commercial Bay and Wellington’s Old Bank Arcade. The new salon will open in Wellington’s leafy, tranquil suburb of Khandallah and will replace the existing Beauty & Beyond Urban Day Spa premises. Skintopia will cater to the existing clientele while offering a distinct point of difference through the salon’s new fit-out and approach.

“We are delighted to be adding a third location to the Skintopia family following glowing reviews and increased demand,” says Natasha Bourke, CEO of Two Hundred Doors (distributors of Dermalogica, Clear Start and The Beauty Chef) and Founder of Skintopia. “We have some exciting plans in the pipeline for 2022, this opening being our first announcement with more to come. We want to lead the industry with innovation and a contemporary approach to skin health. We’re delighted to offer more New Zealander’s the opportunity to access our results-driven, professional skincare treatments and integrated holistic approach with the opening of Skintopia Khandallah.”

What sets Skintopia apart is the salons set out to offer visible differences in skin health after just one visit. The brand’s business model features an innovative open-plan skin lounge which was previously unique to New Zealand. Skintopia offers highly skilled and trained staff, offering advanced treatments incorporating the latest in technology such as micro-current, LED light, hydro dermabrasion, oxygen and collagen therapy, and customer service second-to-none.

Skintopia Khandallah will also offer Cult Skin Treatments, advanced DermalogicaPRO treatments and professional skin analysis technologies such as Observ and BT systems which are part of Skintopia’s energetic formula that the treatment salon is regarded for.

Both Wellington Skintopia salons will be overseen by Hayley Wilkin, Skintopia Business Manager who has over 14 years expertise as a professional skin therapist. Hayley is well regarded in the industry for her knowledge, holistic approach and dedication to delivering exceptional results.

“I couldn’t be happier to be introducing our Skintopia concept to Khandallah!” says Hayley Wilkin, Skintopia Business Manager. “After successfully growing our innovative Skintopia Old Bank location over the past three years, I know firsthand that Khandallah and the surrounding suburbs are going to absolutely love our holistic approach to skincare, lifestyle and wellness. I grew up in Khandallah (former Khandallah School student here!) and am still a local, so to be welcoming clients to our brand-new, purpose-built Skin Centre is something I’m excited to be sharing with the community. Skintopia Khandallah will be the local hub for personalised, professional, advanced skincare recommendations and I cannot wait to welcome new and existing clients into our beautiful new space.”

Skintopia have again collaborated with award-wining interior design agency Material Creative, who designed the other two Skintopia salons. The design team started with taking inspiration from the skin, using materials and colours to represent the skins layers, texture and structure. Material Creative won the Best Design Award, (under the Healthcare & Wellbeing Spatial category) at the Designers Institute of New Zealand Design Awards 2020 for Skintopia’s Commercial Bay salon.

Hayley Wilkin shares her skincare advice for the changing seasons and what she recommends to keep your skin in tip top shape:

What are the common skin concerns heading into Autumn/Winter and what treatments do you recommend for them?

As Skin Therapists, common skin concerns our clients present with in Autumn/Winter include dehydration, sensitivity, hyperpigmentation, and dull complexions. These can be caused by many factors, but one key example is the change from hot to cold as clients move between indoor and outdoor environments. We love to keep warm and cosy in these seasons, but going from a cold and windy climate (hello Wellington wind!) into a warm/hot one can pull moisture from the skin as air conditioning systems remove the moisture in an indoor environment, which also means removing moisture from your skin. This can cause dry, itchy and flaky skin, leaving it susceptible to irritation and sensitivity. Another skin concern is hyperpigmentation due to clients overdoing it sun-wise during summer and also thinking that they don’t need to continue wearing their SPF products in autumn/winter.

How should you adjust your beauty routine for Autumn/Winter to manage those skin concerns?

Targeted serums are your saviours here! To combat dehydration, opt for a serum that will put moisture into your skin and hold it there. The new Dermalogica Circular Hydration Serum is a perfect example of this as it uses incredibly hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and algae extract to deeply hydrate skin for 10+ hours and also increase hydration levels over time. Combine this with a hydrating mist that can be spritzed over the skin during the day for the ultimate moisture boost. And always, always, always use an SPF! Even though you may not see the sun during some autumn/winter days, UVA rays still penetrate clouds and can cause premature ageing, pigmentation and a dull complexion. Find an SPF that works for your skin while also hydrating it. My daily go-to is Dermalogica’s Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 because it’s an all rounder – Packed full of antioxidants, hydrating and has a great SPF. Let’s not forget about your internal supplements either. Boost hydration by drinking plenty of water and add products such as The Beauty Chef’s Hydration Inner Beauty Boost to up your water intake. It’s too delicious not to sip on!
