Shoe Blog: 10 of the best Espadrilles for SS11/12

The humble rope shoe has come a long way…

We prefer one with rubber sole and leather lining, as opposed to the cheaper canvas variety – so they last for years to come, and breathe when the heat is on.

There is a style to suit every woman – whether you prefer a low wedge for everyday wear, pretty mid wedge for casual bbqs and light enough to throw in your bag to take travelling – or a stunning showstopper for a night on the town.

Personally I find out of all the shoes I’ve ever owned, the espadrilles or rope wedges are the ones that never date – and the best thing? They conjure up images of carefree sunny days, holidays and gelato – whats not to love?

EXIT by Stuart Weitzman worn with strapless maxi by TK Store.

Just throw them on with anything – denim, a maxi, a pretty floral sundress or the new capri pants and you’re good to go.

Here’s a selection of my top 10 espadrilles this summer – prices start at $190 for Clarks and Spain’s Toni Pons, up to $590 for designer rope wedges from Stuart Weitzman (also made in Spain).

We love the aqua colour and pretty rosette detailing of LIRIO by Calzanor.*Also in natural.

NURIA by Toni Pons is more of a classic espadrille – or could even be described as a “flatform” – perfect for everyday. In this gorgeous chartreuse green or black suede.

SERENA by Clarks features a platform and an attractive and on-trend combo of denim and tan . *Also in gingham check.

SYDNEE by Clarks is more of a 50’s feminine style with its ruched bow – pair with a full or pencil shirt, or adorable with the new Capri pants. *Available in silver or black suede.

JOSS by Jeannot has a hint of rope, and really delivers in the height department, with the nude colourway giving the illusion of legs that go on for miles!

We can’t resist the fun glitter of FOURSOME by Stuart Weitzman – perfect for a girl’s night out. *Also available in nude glitter.

SWINGER by Stuart Weitzman gives a nod to the 70’s with its tan suede and macramé style plaited straps. Love it!

KIMBOW by Stuart Weitzman also features a couple of hot trends for summer: florals and nude – to elongate those pins whilst looking oh-so-pretty.

KRONOS by Toni Pons is a more closed in style in black suede – perfect for work and slightly cooler days.

CAMELIA by Toni Pons is an adorable floral espadrille wedge with bow at the back and elasticised slingback.
