Salasai‘s Autumn/Winter 2020 collection is out now and features some beautiful pieces that will appeal to the brand’s many fans. Titled ‘Youth of Bourgeoisie’ the range pays homage to ‘the voice of youth, often the narrators and instigators for change’ in Salasai’s signature sophisticated style. Designers Kirsha Whitcher and Kelly Watson have explored the archetypes of hierarchy in society and breaking down the walls that divide, in doing so they created Salasai’s ‘order of society’ which is open to all.

A timeless geo-heritage tartan has been wonderfully utilised for the Aristocrat print which anchors the range and lends a grungey feel to the collection. Salasai see the use of tartans together as a call for unity as opposed to their individual separatism with the brand’s version featuring on a gorgeous circle skirt dress with contrasting puff sleeves, as well as shirting, a button down dress and fitted pants. There’s a sense of romantic nostalgia in the Madonna and child iconography on the aptly named Madonna print which is juxtaposed with monochromatic spots on a long sleeve dress, wrap top and shirting.

The aristocratic influences of the inspiration come through in the puffed sleeves, full skirts and prim collars of the range. The charming feminine silhouettes have been teamed with vibrant green lace and layered with boxy coats, while the brand’s favoured sportswear and unisex tailoring appears in oversized jumpers and tees teamed with roomier pants and fluid shapes as is Salasai’s androgynous style. The collection also includes three piece suiting that is relaxed and easy to wear, as well as heritage kilts and twinsets. Salasai’s rebellious take on social hierarchy is intelligent and oh so appealing.
