TV3’s The Project recently launched the New Zealand version of the Love Grace handbag appeal, led by presenter Kanoa Lloyd. Love Grace is a charitable campaign set up in the UK by Grace Millane’s family, combining her love of handbags with a legacy carried out in her name to end violence towards women.
In memory of Grace Millane, handbags filled with necessities are being donated to NZ women affected by domestic violence. The Project is collecting them and will work with NZ Women’s Refuge to donate them throughout the country. Often escaping in the middle of the night, and with nothing – these handbags are a gesture to let these women know they are brave, important, supported and loved.
As a company led by a woman with a mostly female team, this is an appeal that touched the hearts of Saben and the brand have offered their Ponsonby store as a drop-off point for handbags for the appeal. They will also be donating bags of their own to the appeal too.
How you can help:
Find a handbag (doesn’t need to be Saben) that is new or near-new condition, fill it with necessities and drop it into the Saben store or any BNZ branch in the country. Then share this process with the #lovegracenz hashtag to spread awareness. If you have just the “fillers” for the bags you can also drop these into Saben’s store and they will pair them with a Saben bag to donate.
Example of items to put inside:
Toothbrush, hairbrush, toothpaste, moisturizer, body wash, flannel, torch, make-up, haircare, torch, tweezers, nail file, sun-block, sanitary items and more. You can find the full list on The Project’s website.
The Love Grace handbag appeal is on now until this Friday 6th March.
