RUBY released their latest collection in stores and online today and it’s a modern range of eye-catching looks. The new collection is called Art Class and sees Creative Director Deanna Didovich experiment with retro style in an imaginative way. Whether it’s creating a new painterly print or designing an asymmetric shape, the designer has approached her 70s inspiration with artistic flair and the result is a bold collection of covetable pieces.
Whereas the RUBY girl has enjoyed an affair with mid-century modernism for the last few seasons, this season the brand has moved on to new territory. This range features wonderfully plush textures, fascinating prints and some rather hallucinogenic colours which have a sublime effect. Art Class is a lesson in clashing that sees abstract prints clash with leopard faux fur and a dark wolf motif paired with shimmering purple silk. The result is pleasingly abstract and suitably eclectic, in some hands it could have gone wrong but at RUBY it’s just right.
A suitably rich colour palette of cobalt blue, grape, vermillion and emerald is teamed with classic neutrals and softer hues for those who want a more subtle look. The seventies inspiration filters through wide-leg pants and wrap dresses, as well as cowl-back gowns and midi-skirts that make for beautiful silhouettes that flatter and move well with the wearer.
Among the key looks are a gorgeous textured velvet floral gown with a sensual bias cut, that same charming floral print features on a sleeveless top and midi-skirt. The dresses truly are a highlight, whether in ruffled maxi and mini lengths, draped cowl neck styles or with batwing sleeves. Coats and blazers are also strong in this range with classic choices in pared back neutrals or bold red and faux fur animal print that love to make a statement. RUBY certainly has a confidently cool appeal this season.
