Ruby at NZFW 2010 – Review

It was a great way to open day two of Fashion Week, with the show starting with breakfast and bubbles courtesy of Rosemount. Classic Auckland spring weather (in other words, pouring rain) failed to put a damper on the show, even when the side of the tent where we gathered for drinks just about blew off!

Ruby’s fun, feminine and highly wearable style was evident on the runway, in a collection full of highly covetable pieces. View the complete runway gallery here. One of my favourite was the black ruffled dress, finished with a thin gold belt.

Cute and preppy knits and shaggy jackets, and shades of olive green complemented more structured pieces – I especially loved the structured, shiny dress with the cinched waist and tulip skirt. A unique piece and one of the standouts of the collection.

Designer Deanna Didovich mentioned Tintin as one of the inspirations for the collection, and the girls in desert boots and coats and parka-style jackets brought this to mind.

Makeup was kept fresh, simple and youthful – flawless skin with matte red lips, complementing the youthful style of the clothes.

A fabulous NZ Fashion Week debut, sure to be the first of many for the Ruby girls!
