Red Carpet Trends: The Grammy Awards 2012

The 54th annual Grammy Awards were scheduled to occupy most of my evening on Monday, where I found myself glued to the TV, gazing in awe (and/or shock) at the various celebs that walked down the red carpet.

A few more trends were added to the ever-growing Award show trend list for 2012, and we saw styles like the thigh-high slit and cut-out dresses prevalent on this red carpet, too.

High Necklines

Carrie Underwood stunned in a sequined Gomez-Gracia gown which featured a high neckline – and was also backless, adding a hint of skin to an otherwise conservative outfit. Paris Hilton also rocked the high neckline trend, wearing a white and gold Basil Soda dress with a gold belt (we?ll get to the hardware trend spotted at the Grammys next!). Taylor Swift was another celeb to don a high necked piece, looking lovely in her silk Zuhair Murad mermaid gown.

Hardware

Several stars added elements of shiny gold hardware to their looks on this red carpet. Alicia Keys wore a black Alexandre Vaulthier couture dress, pairing a gold statement necklace with some Louboutin heels to complete her look. Meanwhile, Grammys presenter Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted in a Stella McCartney column dress, cinched at the waist by, you guessed it, a gold belt! Also on the red carpet, E! Presenter Giuliana Rancic interviewed the top names in music wearing a black stain asymmetrically draped cocktail piece with a gold metal belt by Georges Chakra Couture.

Sultry Slits (Take 2!
– see this year?s SAGs)

Rihanna wowed in a very minimalistic Giorgio Armani piece which she helped to design – adding a plunging V-neck and very sultry slit. Video vixen Amber Rose was also on the red carpet with boyfriend Wiz Khalifa, donning a lemon yellow one shouldered Versace gown, which featured a high split skirt, keeping her on-trend with the rest of her stylish counterparts. Also picking up on the slit trend, Victoria?s Secret Angel Anne V showed off a lot of leg on the red carpet with a barely-there Anthony Vaccarello dress, also showcasing the cut-out trend we spotted at the SAGs.

With this year?s award season in its final weeks in Hollywood, I?m definitely looking forward to the Oscars on the 26th of February, where I?m sure we will see even more exciting trends on some of our favourite stars.
