The SAG Awards turned out to be a haven for new trends – I spotted five dominant ones coming through on the red carpet. Backless gowns, lace-detailing, cutouts (which were also popular on Spring 2012 runways everywhere) and dramatic slits, to name a few. See which stars worked the looks below and leave a comment telling us which dress or trend was your favourite!
Lace-detailing
Lace was a popular choice for the SAGs. George Clooney’s stylish date Stacy Keibler looked radiant in a Marchesa black lace floor-length gown. Michelle Williams (in Valentino) and Jayma Mays (in Reem Acra) took the trend a step further, covering their bare backs with lace, for a subtly sexy look.
Sultry Slits
Emily Blunt stood out in this bright, kelly green Oscar de la Renta frock, which perfectly complemented her coloring. She completed her glam look with with a simple updo, several sparkling bangles and a matching clutch. Lea Michele’s Grecian-style Versace gown also turned heads with its thigh-high slit, but I really loved the way she toned down the look by wearing her hair down with a simple side part.
Cutouts
Showing a hint of skin was a huge trend on the Spring 2012 runways, so it's no surprise that the ready-to-wear look has hit the red carpet. From Amber Heard's black Zac Posen gown to Jenna Ushkowitz's pretty printed Rebecca Minkoff, these ladies showed some skin in super creative ways.
Plunging Necklines
Rose Byrne was in a class of her own at the SAGs in her fashion-forward, embellished Elie Saab jumpsuit – and while it was totally different than the other looks on the red carpet, her plunging neckline was definitely a popular trend, with Naya Rivera also showing off a plunging Naeem Khan gown.
Shades of Maroon
As it did at the Golden Globes, red ruled the carpet once again at the SAG Awards, with a slew of women opting to show off the hue. Mary Steenburgen, Dianna Agron, and SofĂa Vergara were particular stand-outs, but the shade was seen on many more stars – it was definitely the most popular color of the night.
