A stack of our favourite magazines.
The glossy magazine, you can’t beat them and we certainly think they’re an amazing source of visual, and often written inspiration. Here we’ve rounded up some of our favourites. From the fashion bibles to the literary guides, there’s something for everyone. You may even find something new to browse among this list as well.
Fete – available at Magnation
Our friends across the ditch certainly do magazines well, and Fete is no exception. Released bimonthly, Fete looks at some of the best Australia have to offer, from design through to fashion. It’s very Kinfolk-esque, in the best possible way and we love the design of this one. It’s exquisite to read and you’re always left feeling inspired after exploring its pages.
Lula – available at Magnation
The ever-elusive Lula. This magazine, originally edited by Leith Clark (stylist extraordinaire who has since moved on to start Violet magazine), is released twice a year. Nobody ever knows when it will be released and it tends to just drop out of nowhere. Lula contains mainly fashion editorials but you’ll also find some interviews and pieces with creative folk nestled in its pages as well. While Lula lacks some of its sparkle from earlier years, it is still an absolutely beautiful magazine to have around and to get inspiration from.
Porter – available at most magazine retailers
Porter, the magazine resulting from Net A Porter is brilliant. Each issue they profile inspiring women, such as Charlotte Tilbury and Emma Watson as well as a host of others. Porter seems deadest on championing women and recognising their achievements, which we aren’t going to argue with. There’s also some rather fabulous beauty pages inside and of course a plethora of fashion content.
Teen Vogue – available from Magnation
This monthly bible is Vogue for the younger set, although they’ve really upped their game lately with content that appeals to a much wider audience. Teen Vogue have always been a step ahead of their competitors when it comes to picking fresh talent before they hit it big, from fashion to entertainment stars. We love this one for fresh inspiration and takes on fashion and beauty, as well as their embracement of more topical issues like gender equality and ethical fashion.
The Happy Reader – available from Time Out Books/online at Book Depository
We feel like this magazine is a bit underrated but it is really worthy of a lot of attention. The Happy Reader is put together by the folk from The Gentlewoman and Fantastic Man and is released four times a year. A famous face that loves literature fronts each issue. Past cover stars have included Aziz Ansari, Kim Gordon and more. There’s also a bunch of bookish goodness in there and usually an excerpt from a Penguin title that mightn’t be as widely known. It’s cheap, cheerful and you’ll want to get your hands on it.
Yen – available at most bookstores
Yen’s the magazine for the creatives, the music enthusiasts, the wanderlust crowd and the purveyors of good taste. Yen might target themselves to the cool kids but don’t be fooled, there’s something in there for everybody to enjoy. Released bimonthly this is one magazine you do not want to miss.
