What is your favourite item of clothing?
I buy favourite pieces which hang in my wardrobe, but I don't actually wear them, I just think they look great!!!! I am a jeans and sneakers girl – not so glamorous when I step away from work. The favourite piece in my wardrobe would be my vintage party dress from the late 70's – bright emerald with tiny black polka dots, in an all over pleated chiffon – I have only worn it twice in the four years I have had it!
Who is your favourite New Zealand designer?
When ever I return from travelling, I am always surprised at how little I have purchased overseas. I truly prefer the work of New Zealand designers. I always admire Zambesi, as they don't follow the mass trends; they are directional, yet timeless and wearable. Their work is always interesting with a focus on style rather than fashion.
What are you coverting for summer?
Last summer I bought my “MC hammer pants", no one could quite believe I went there! This summer I am thinking about my all in one pant suit.. I just haven't seen the right one yet.
What has been your biggest fashion mistake?
On reflection, I have worn what I like, instead of what suits me. Just because it is in fashion, doesn't mean I should be wearing it. I am now trying to be a believer in the rules, dressing to what suits my body shape. Anything can look good if you have the right body shape for it.
For myself, I shouldn't wear high neck jumpers or ¾ pants as I will look short and frumpy. I have now donated all of these items to my local clothing bin.
What is your favourite fashion purchase/garment/outfit of all times?
My floor length Zambesi wool dress! It's timeless and it makes me feel tall!!! Again I hardly ever where it but I still love it!
What are the highlights of Liberty's latest range?
Two highlights from our W2008 range are the Romance and Victoria ranges.
ROMANCE is a NZ merino range, surrounded with a neckline of lace. It is reminiscent of the camisoles worn in the 80's under suit jackets, which is making a vintage, come back. I actually wear this programme as outerwear; the slip layered with leggings. It comes in a long sleeve, a cami, and a slip, with good base colours of black, smoked pearl and pale rose for those wanting more femininity VICTORIA is a range which is much lighter, but still NZ merino. It is extremely soft and cosy to wear against the skin. It is side seam free and has flattering lines that hug the body. This also comes in a long sleeve, tank, and cami, and in colours black and smoked pearl.
Which is your favourite piece from the latest collection?
A piece called Opulence. It is snugly and warm and I love the feeling of NZ merino against my skin. I love the feminine lace as it can be worn to be seen peeking out from beneath what ever I am wearing. It has a delicate vintage look, which is modernized when I layer it up with more directional pieces from my wardrobe.
You would rather eat your own shirt than wear…
I'm not one for being too concerned about what others think. I would tend to see the humorous side in wearing something I hated. I'll try anything once. Fashion is fun; it is interesting, and intriguing. As much as I adore the philosophy of fashion, I am still happy in my ugly clothes that I wear gardening!
