Yesterday’s OMF Melbourne Cup Day kicked off the first day of the racing season for Auckland Racing Club in style as over 5,500 guests celebrated the event at Ellerslie Racecourse. The crowd was certainly dressed to impress and was a 20% increase on visitor numbers from last year which means this season will be a stellar one.

The Newmarket Style Spotter fashion competition was also launched yesterday with judges businesswoman and Auckland Racing Club Style Ambassador, Carena West, alongside celebrity stylist, Sarah Stuart having their work cut out for them. The women’s competition was won by was won by Alexandra Jones from Auckland who wore a stunning ensemble comprised of custom Natalie Chan millinery, a top made from Dolce & Gabbana lace that was created by her aunty as well as an on-trend tulle skirt with gold accessories. It was her first fashion competition winner and she was delighted with the result. The men’s competition was won by Dion Herdson from Auckland looking sharp in Hugo Boss, Barkers and Hallensteins.

Each winner took home a generous $1,000 voucher courtesy of Newmarket to be spent in the premium fashion precinct. Alexandra has also qualified for the regional final of New Zealand’s Fashions in the Field, The Ned Prix de Fashion, which will be held at Ellerslie Racecourse on Vodafone Derby Day, Saturday 2 March 2019.
