Platypus to open nationwide

The new Sylvia Park store has phone ports next to the try on area, so customers can charge their phones when trying on sneakers.

New Zealand born and bred footwear wholesaler and retailer Accent Group is set to expand its store offering with the opening of Platypus stores nationwide in New Zealand.

Platypus made their entrance into the New Zealand market in April 2013 with Platypus Queen St shortly followed by Albany and St Lukes.

The sneaker destination is now set to take their offering nationwide with stores to open in Sylvia Park, Onehunga, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch over the next two months taking the total to eight stores across New Zealand.

Matt Hapgood, General Manager Platypus Shoes, says “the success of the current Platypus stores in Auckland and how excited our customers are has meant we are now able to expand and offer this to the rest of New Zealand”.

Home to global sneaker brands such as – Vans, Converse, Nike, Adidas, Dr Martens, New Balance, Platypus has established itself in the market as a premium sneaker retailer that’s a cut above the rest.

Offering a wide assortment of sneakers in the market, the stores will be home to limited and exclusive product from brands such as Nike, Asics Gel, Palladium and Supra.

With this offering Platypus has quickly become synonymous with the street-wear scene. Hapgood says ‘our customers crave variety and this is exactly what we aim to deliver by offering over 500 styles from 22 brands including product not available elsewhere in New Zealand.”

Platypus Sylvia Park which opened on March 12, will be followed by the Riccarton store on March 25. Continuing the retail roll out, Platypus Centre Place will open on April 1, Queensgate on April 10 and finally Platypus Onehunga on April 22.
