Designers Georgia Cherrie and Paris Mitchell Temple from Paris Georgia have been busily preparing for their debut New Zealand Fashion Week show where they also have the prestigious honour of being the Mercedes-Benz Presents designers for 2019. The designers have revealed two elegant bespoke looks they have created for the show that include a dress inspired by the attention to detail and sculpted lines of a Mercedes-Benz, and a suit inspired by shared brand values of passion and intelligence.

Each of the Paris Georgia outfits are made from a unique bonded mac fabric produced in Japan and sourced from a local supplier. “We chose this fabric as it is known for its high quality and is a performance fabric, and stays true to the Paris Georgia brand,” says designer and co-founder Paris Mitchell Temple.

For the accompanying imagery the suit is modeled by Paris Georgia co-founder and designer Georgia Cherrie who is confident the design will be a head-turner on the runway. “We wanted to take a spin on your typical suit and create something with a high level of design and attention to detail-a suit that makes an impact, as a Mercedes-Benz does when it drives down the street,” adds Georgia.

Paris Mitchell Temple models the sculpted camel dress in the imagery, which was inspired by the interior of the designer’s own classic Mercedes-Benz 280E. “For the dress we focused on the lines and curves you see in a classic Mercedes-Benz,” Paris says. “We mimicked these lines by using a vegan leather binding, which sculpts the dress to fit the figure. Our core focus is designs that praise the female form, and this dress stays very true to our aesthetic, whilst also incorporating the principles that have made Mercedes-Benz a design icon.”

With their NZFW show less than two weeks away we had a quick chat with Paris and Georgia to find out how things are going with their preparations, what we can expect from the show and what they’re most looking forward to.

Congratulations on being chosen as the Mercedes-Benz Presents designer for New Zealand Fashion Week 2019. How are you feeling about it and what does it mean to you?
It feels surreal, we’ve both worked so hard it means the world to be acknowledged by a brand such as Mercedes-Benz. Having local support is so important to us and this partnership is about embracing that and focusing on our beautiful home that we love so dearly – New Zealand.

What has the experience been like so far and how are your NZFW preparations going?
We are a small team so having support from a brand such as Mercedes Benz has been incredible. We are so grateful! The preparations are very exciting, we are working alongside a team of creatives we have always admired, it’s an amazing opportunity to experiment and work with new people.

Every designer needs a supportive team to help them get everything done, can you tell us about your team and the people and partnerships that are helping bring your NZFW show to life?
Mercedes Benz having faith in us really brought this opportunity to life, we’re also working with a team of creatives – people we’ve always admired. Sebastian Hunt and Dylan Diaz are styling the show, Akin Studio, Someday Studios and Henry Temple are working on creative and production, Graz on Music and the incredible Angus Muir is creating the lighting.

We know you can’t share much just yet but can you give us an idea of what to expect from your collection/show?
We are set to feature our biggest collection yet with collaborations from both local and international brands. We want it to be an emotional experience, we’re hoping to bring something different to NZFW.

What are you most looking forward to about your NZFW debut?
We love that it’s given us an opportunity to showcase PG to New Zealand!

Going back to the beginning, what made you become designers?
We have always wanted to start a label together, as long as I can remember we talked about it. We both love designing and creating clothing for women, it’s always been a passion we shared.

How would you describe the Paris Georgia woman?
She’s intelligent, refined and strong.

Where can we find you when you’re not in your workroom and how do you relax?
We both love our homes and Annabelle’s wine bar, it’s just by our showroom so we love to meet friends there after work!

What’s next for you and where do you see the future of your brand?
It’s a big question and who knows, but our vision is to dress women all around the world. Making them feel empowered and confident!
