With summer well and truly here, lots of you are heading away for weekend trips around the country. Even though most of your destinations will only be a few hours drive away, it?s still really important to pack exactly the clothes that you?ll need – and enough of them (although, the crime of over-packing is another story altogether)!
Whether you?re heading to a beach house or embracing the great outdoors by going camping, a weekend trip is a great way to relax without having to miss out on your weekday obligations.
Below is a simple guide that shows a few key pieces for both of the typical summer trips. I also added in some general beauty products and accessories that are a must for a weekend away!
Camping Trip
Left to right: Workshop ?5 Pocket Skinny? Jeans; tigerlily ?carranza? shorts in sherbert; Zambesi ?Truth? sweater; tigerlily ?masirah? tee
Denim is a must for camping (although if you?re doing some serious hiking, pack relevant gear – denim does not take kindly to river crossings and the like)! Shorts are great for hotter days, especially if you?re going to be doing something like light hiking or hanging out by a lake. Jeans, on the other hand, are good to throw on during those cooler nights. A light jacket or cardigan will also come in handy. Finally, go for a pair of slip-on shoes that are durable but easy to get on and off when you?re climbing into the tent!
Weekend at the Beach
Left to right: Huffer ?Shear Long Sleeve?; tigerlily ?fortune? dress; Karen Walker ?Sailor? dress; Max ?Contrast Brim? fedora
Beach uniforms, of course, include bathing suits, but I wanted to focus on what you would be wearing during the time that you?re not lying out on the sand!
Flowing, breezy clothes are a must at the seashore, with their carefree vibe screaming summer and sunshine! The tigerlily dress above has a floral print of hand-painted water colour azaleas – so pretty. A fitted vest bodice dress complete with a tail-hem, this is one piece that will be turning heads everywhere, all summer long. Nautical-themed clothing is also very cute – like the Karen Walker dress above. The Huffer sweater is thin enough to not overheat you in the summer, but provides that extra layer for those nights that you find yourself sitting on the beach with friends (add bonfire and marshmallows freely)!
Must-pack Accessories
No matter the weekend trip, these are some accessories you shouldn?t leave the house without!
• Hair pins and elastic band: Travelling and being outdoors can easily wreak havoc on your hair, so bringing along these hair essentials is a great way to ensure that you?ll be able to keep your locks under control (and keep them out of your face if you need to!).
• Sunglasses: Keep your precious eyes protected in the summer sun, and look glam while doing so!
• Sunscreen: Be sun safe! Your skin will thank you for it.
• Dry shampoo: I discovered this about a year ago, and it is now my #1 go-to hair product! If you are going to be somewhere where you may have limited access to showers, or be short on time, pack some dry shampoo to keep your hair looking fresh. If you?re going away just for a night, packing dry shampoo will save you the space of packing a shampoo and conditioner in your toiletries bag.
• Lip balm with SPF: Aside from taking care of your skin and hair, be sure to take care of your lips – they can get sunburnt, too!
• Insect repellant: The great outdoors in the summer often come with bugs, so pack some insect repellant to keep them at bay.
