Ethical fashion is at the heart of label Ovna Ovich and the brand have just released their latest collection which is Chapter Nine and titled ‘Tread Softly’. Designer Marina Davis wants consumers to consider the origins of what they wear and not just the finished garment but the fabric and fibres also. She wants us to think about the impact of our fashion choices and is committed to sustainable practices from design through to fabrications. This collection features lots of plant-based fibres as well as deadstock fabrics, which are fabrics which are left over for large-scale production and would otherwise be thrown away.
Created for the Autumn/Winter 2018 season, Tread Softly includes lightweight yet warm knits that are cut from wool yarn spun in Wellington from a 100% New Zealand merino & possum blend. The collection also features denim that has been ethically sourced in India and is handwoven and naturally dyed with indigo. The designer’s approach is meant to be low-impact and carefully considered which extends to every aspect of the brand. Ovna Ovich is not a label that follows trends either, with each collection a beautiful extension of the contemporary wardrobe that has unique details and a focus on texture.
Fine merino base layers are paired with clean separates to form a modern and practical foundation for the collection. They’re perfectly balanced with the more voluminous pieces that are carefully gathered or over-sized details that are unexpected and playful. Flared hems, over-sized collars and clever ruching mean these looks are elegantly modern in hues of navy, ochre and indigo and neutrals. Every Ovna Ovich garment is designed and made in New Zealand with the thoughtful brand offering well-made pieces that are meant to be treasured and will last for seasons to come.
