Kate Sylvester A/W 2014
In a major coup for New Zealand Fashion Week, top designer Kate Sylvester has confirmed her return to the catwalk this year, joining a stellar lineup of high profile New Zealand fashion brands.
Kate Sylvester’s return to New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) is particularly significant after an absence from the event, and reflective of the renewed sense of optimism around the industry and a general uplift in confidence in international fashion markets.
Sylvester comments, “It’s so great to be showing again this year! We love doing shows and this being our 21st birthday, we really want to celebrate, not just ourselves but the industry that has nurtured and supported us.”
“We have such fantastic retail accounts throughout New Zealand and NZFW is our only national event that brings the industry together as a whole”, concludes Sylvester.
NZFW Managing Director Dame Pieter Stewart is excited about having Kate Sylvester back on board this year.
“Kate Sylvester is one of New Zealand fashion’s heavy hitters showing during the week, alongside a really strong lineup of designers from around the country and we’re delighted to have her confirmed to show in 2014. Her distinctive signature style of modern femininity attracts a very loyal customer and her show is sure to be one of the highlights of this years event.”
Kate Sylvester will show her Autumn Winter 2015 Collection at a private catwalk show for Fashion Week delegates and buyers on Wednesday 27 August.
The fashion loving public will have the chance to see Kate Sylvester on the catwalk at the Resene Designer Selection (DS) Shows which will run on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Kate will also feature her take on the corporate wardrobe in a group show at the Friday afternoon DS show and Corporate Lunch, alongside Trelise Cooper Boardroom, Kathryn Wilson, Juliette Hogan, Zambesi and TK.
Described as an ‘irreverent classicist’, Kate Sylvester balances her love of tailoring and historical reference with a provocative wit and a resolutely modern vision.
Known for her immaculate tailoring and strongly conceptual collections, Sylvester is celebrated for her ironic, subtly subversive take on modern femininity. Her work plays off disparate references, stitching sportswear to couture, femininity to masculinity, pop culture to history, high art to punk rock.
Kate Sylvester has stores in New Zealand and Australia and her designs are sold at high fashion boutiques in Australasia, France and the US. The brand has an established sustainability policy, including a commitment to onshore production and an expanding stable of ethical and organic fabric options. Kate Sylvester is a past winner of a National Sustainable Business Network Award.
Tickets for NZFW public shows will be on sale from June, with early bird tickets available to loyal followers of the event. Public sales to a packed schedule of entertainment throughout the weekend, which includes the beauty hub, DJs and loads of sampling, will be available from early July.
