New Zealand Fashion Week celebrates 10 years of NZ Fashion Weekend this year with the an exciting array of designers and events taking place from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September. Fashion Weekend is open to the public and follows four days of trade-focused shows for the fashion industry with New Zealand Fashion Week hosted at Aotea Square and Auckland Town Hall this year.
Fashion Weekend offers fashion fans the chance to experience in-season runway shows, beauty activations, seminars and shop til their hearts content from some of NZ’s leading brands. They’ll see all the key trends for Spring/Summer 2019/20 and get inspired by all the amazing fashion and beauty expertise on display.
“NZ Fashion Weekend is such a fantastic fashion-and-fun-packed few days, and this year is possibly the most exciting and diverse,” says NZFW founder and managing director Dame Pieter Stewart. “It’s also NZ Fashion Weekend’s 10th anniversary, which makes it particularly special – so there’s even more to celebrate.”
Beauty is a big focus this year with the Farmers Beauty Hub and More Beauty Area sure to be popular with attendees. They’ll be showcasing premium hair and makeup brands across with leading experts on-hand to share their knowledge and tips and tricks with lots of pampering opportunities for beauty fans.
The always popular Resene Designer Runway show will kick off NZ Fashion Weekend on Friday at 6pm. It’s a jam-packed fashion show with in-season looks from every NZFW designer from the week alongside key hair trends and makeup looks. If you can’t make it to the Friday session the RDR show is also on 12pm on Sunday too.
Friday night also sees iconic NZ brand Zambesi take to the runway to celebrate 40 years of their beloved brand. Their retrospective show will feature some of the brand’s most memorable designs from 1979 to 2019 and is not to be missed.
Saturday has a big lineup of shows and events with Farmers’ Kids Show starting things off at 11am. Next up is Showroom 22’s sustainability seminar and then a runway show on sustainability will include emerging and established designers who are focused on sustainability. Solo shows by Augustine, PIA, Federation and Tuesday Label will showcase each brand’s latest ranges before the official fashion week party kicks off at 8.30pm in the Town Hall’s Concert Chamber.
Sunday is when the Designer Pop-Up Sale swings into action offering lots of designer fashion at discounted prices. eturns for one day only on Sunday where shoppers can score designer pieces at a fraction of the price. YMCA’s Walk the Line show at 10am is first on the schedule and provides a unique opportunity for the future stars of the New Zealand fashion industry to make their mark on a world stage – before they’ve even left high school. K Road Presents is up next and will showcase a curated selection of alternative and streetwear brands.
The afternoon is when Fashion in the Heart of the City show, produced and styled by celebrity stylist Kylie Cooke, will take to the runway. Followed by the Mercy Hospice show which will end the week on an uplifting note featuring hospice retail opportunity store garments from some of fashion’s most-loved household names.
