After the glitz and the glamour of Fashion Week – An insight into the health and needs of the industry.
A report into the NZ Fashion Industry has just been launched at New Zealand Fashion Weekend.
Early in 2012, NZ Fashion Tech commissioned a survey and report, investigating and establishing the current and future needs of the New Zealand fashion, garment and sewn industries, from an economic, educational, industry training and career perspective. NZ Fashion Tech felt there was no relevant, current research available within the industry, from a tertiary education providers’ perspective.
The report examines the opportunities and challenges facing the New Zealand fashion industry and looks at its growth, production and export trends, employment levels, skills shortages and recruitment and careers prospects for young people entering tertiary education.
Kevin Smith, Managing Director of NZ Fashion Tech says: "This report shows a fashion industry which has made dramatic changes over the last 20 years and still needs more highly skilled staff to continue expanding in a fiercely competitive global marketplace."
Following the glitz and glamour of NZ Fashion Weekend, this report provides a snapshot into the health on the industry. The continued growth and the success of the NZ fashion industry depends on people following the correct career paths and obtaining skills that are in demand. It is envisaged that this report will become a catalyst to forge further links with industry and continue to address its training and educational requirements.
