Number One Shoes: Key Trends for A/W 11

With chic, on trend styles to suit every outfit and occasion, you can now achieve hot off the catwalk A/W ‘11 looks, without the designer price tag.

Number One Shoes showed off key trends for Autumn/Winter at a salon fashion show last week. Here are my favourite picks from each key trend.

MILITARY
A revival in brand heritage and classic elegant styling is the inspiration behind this trend, taking notes from vintage military uniforms updated with a contemporary, utilitarian inspired aesthetic. Think buckles, eyelets, detailed lacing and black, tan and taupe colour tones. This winter the military boot is set to be a key accessory for all fashion conscious women – perfect for grounding floaty, feminine dresses or teamed with slim, tailored pants.

HERITAGE
Hunting, shooting and fishing pursuits take a walk on the wild side for a more urban, contemporary take on these traditional activities. The hiking boot is adapted for the street, with laces, hooks and ski clip closures. Shearling, faux fur and lush, earthy colours keep these cozy, comfy styles feminine and interesting. Pair with this season’s duffle coat revival or chunky, oversize knits.

LOVE STORY
Inspired by famous love stories the world over – think Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg – Love Story is a contemporary update of the forever-inspiring 70’s decade. Shoes are classic and androgynous in style, offset with a refined, feminine silhouette. Camel and black are key colours for this trend, while interesting textures, new heels and decorative hardware elements bring richness and a contemporary feel. Pair with whimsical dresses in soft floral fabrics.

ROCK ‘N ROLL
Electric 80’s is out, fashion’s inspiration is moving on to punk-rock and statement metal detail. Studs and straps embellish booties and peep toes with zip up fastenings for an extra rock-chic feel. Heels are either super fine or thick and cone-shaped, while wedges bring a fresh interpretation to 90’s originals. Keep the look relevant, not retro, by leaving the hardware to the accessories with soft, classic clothing – think cashmere knits and dark skinny jeans.

ESSENTIALS
A truly successful wardrobe always houses a collection of timeless classics – the go-to shoes that prove a fail-safe option. Not only do Number One Shoes have a new found focus on fashion forward trends, they also have a key Essentials collection with pieces to go back to season after season. Minimalism is key, with pared back embellishments and a focus on shape and material texture. Natural leather and softbuckle accents keep things interesting while heel and toe outlines are ageless yet modern. Wear with everything.
