Campbell Luke and Danielle Power-Silk looks on the runway at New Zealand Fashion Week 2016
The second New Generation show was really one for the ladies with womenswear coming down the runway thick and fast. We were treated to what can only be described as a fantastic quartet of fashion and will be spoilt for choice next winter. Burgundies, prints, denim and sophisticated pieces were aplenty in these collections.
Kendall Watt brought some stunning prints to the table that we love and want to adopt into our wardrobes immediately. She showcased a range of garments in burgundy and mustard hues. Our favourite look was the grey top with cut-out detailing and the high-waisted pants. It gave us Sandy post-makeover in Grease vibes and we love it for that. Although really this whole collection was simply stunning.
Motel Bible’s signature palette consisted of whites, forest greens, greys and reds. The nineties vibes were strong here with red velvet trousers, chokers and the high neckline all on show. This collection had a relaxed, yet sophisticated feel to it. Think pieces you’d happily lounge around in on the couch with some magazines and also wear to the office. Versatile, comfortable and chic. You cannot go wrong.
Danielle Power-Silk’s collection also delivered on the sophisticated yet understated front. We definitely got cool girl vibes from these pieces. There were creams, turtlenecks and knits you will want to buy multiple versions of for every occasion. In fact, many of the pieces in this collection were classics that you could wear for seasons to come. We loved the show-stealing houndstooth cape for a luxe, modern-day take on the Little Red Riding Hood look.
Campbell Luke’s fabric of choice was denim. It appeared in cropped tops, wide-legged pants and even as a choker on one of the models. White shirts appeared in the form of turtlenecks, cropped shirts and a more relaxed dress shirt for the gents. We loved the pinstripes and the layer-friendly skirts that could be worn year-round.
Soundtrack: Conscious by Broods (Kendall Watt), The Golden Age of Bloodshed by Rowland S. Howard (Motel Bible), Fever (Danielle Power-Silk) and Classical Music + a poetry reading (Campbell Luke).
Beauty Notes: Minimal with the focus instead being on the clothes we all need and want in our lives.
Hot Item(s): The oversized cardigan-esque coat and scarf from Motel Bible (get in my life), the pinstriped shirt and sleek black trousers from Danielle Power-Silk, printed everything from Kendall Watt and the wide-legged denim pants from Campbell Luke.
