An exciting collaboration from Natasha Oakley x Nasty Gal launched online this afternoon with a fresh 30 piece collection. Australian entrepreneur and influencer Natasha designed the range in partnership with Nasty Gal’s design team with the resulting collection inspired by the 30th anniversary of the classic film Pretty Woman. The range features swimwear, beach cover-ups and cute clothing perfect for the summer season. It includes everything you need for beach days and summer nights in modern shapes and styles that are available in sizes 4 – 24.

We caught up with LA-based Natasha to find out more about the collection, her favourite pieces from the range and how she feels about diversity in fashion?

How did your collaboration with Nasty Gal come about?
I’ve always loved Nasty Gal and appreciated its female founded/start-up beginnings. They have always been known for edgy, on-trend designs that are outside the box and super fashionable so I thought they would be the perfect partner to create a 90s inspired collection with!

Tell us about your collection and its Pretty Woman inspiration?
This collection is for the super feminine, confident girl that chases the summer sun and lives for a warm summer night. Julia Roberts and the movie Pretty Woman is one of the most iconic movies that inspired huge fashion moments and trends in the 90s which is why the famous tan polka dot is the hero print of this collection.

What are your favourite pieces from the range?
It’s so hard to choose! The one-pieces are super cute and flattering – I especially love the nude one-piece with rouched belt detail.

How would you describe your personal style and how does it influence your designs and collaborations?
Your style is a reflection of your personality and this collection envisions my personal summer style through sexy swim shapes and wearable femininity.

How did your experience with your own swimwear company Monday Swimwear help your decisions with this Nasty Gal collaboration?
Having my own design background definitely helped with my collaboration with Nasty Gal! My designs for Monday Swimwear are quite classic, so it was great to create pieces a little more stylish and on-trend with Nasty Gal.

What is your advice for anyone who wants to be a business owner themselves?
Learn your trade, do your homework and be patient! It’s important to focus on the big picture with your business and stay true to your vision and direction. Results take time and success takes hard work and diligence day in and day out. There is no such thing as overnight success, hard work pays off!

What are your thoughts on body positivity and what are your best tips for being body confident?
Confidence comes from the inside, by living a balanced life and feeling secure within yourself. You can’t expect to feel great on the beach if you aren’t happy and confident within. I like to eat organic and natural as much as possible, exercise regularly, sleep 8 hours a day, prioritise self-care and love, and live a balanced lifestyle. This has helped me stay healthy and maintain my health when I have such a busy lifestyle.

Diversity is definitely a buzzword in fashion but actual change has been a bit slow until recently, what are your thoughts on it and how do you see fashion changing to be more inclusive?
I’ve always believed in embracing your body and accepting everybody. My business partner Devin Brugman and I started our business as non-traditional bikini models. We were not a size 2, and we both have larger cup sizes, but we wanted to create a brand that was inclusive of all sizes. We love seeing that theme continue in fashion with retailers such as Nasty Gal catering to a wide range of sizes. There is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ and I’m glad fashion is catching on!

Which people and accounts do you follow on Instagram for inspiration?
I love following fashion icons like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Anna Vitiello. But I do pull a lot of my inspiration from my own travels and 80s and 90s supermodels.

What makes you excited about the future?
Continuing to grow my brand and collaborate with other amazing brands like Nasty Gal!
