Bic Runga kicks off the her Drive 20th anniversary tour tonight in Christchurch and the talented musician has collaborated with Miss Crabb on some special new merchandise to mark the tour. Bic Runga’s Drive album was released in August 1997 and holds a special place in the hearts of many New Zealanders so it’s fitting that this new collaboration will be a perfect celebratory keepsake for her many fans.
Designer Kristine Crabb loves 80s and 90s band tees and saw the opportunity to create some charming designs referencing iconic 90’s Bic Runga images. “It’s helped me see another layer to having been around this long, almost a self-irony,” says Bic. “We had the best time making this stuff, she had a very clear idea of how bold it should be, it was such an exciting process.”
The duo worked with renowned designer Son La Pham of DDMMYY and Le Roy magazine to create the eye-catching graphics for the tees that feature Bic’s portraits, which were then printed by local Auckland screen printer Seabreeze Apparel. The tees also have a Miss Crabb twist with poetic embroideries of song lyrics and illustrations by Bic’s partner, musician Kody Neilsen featuring on them. The offering is a unique piece of New Zealand style that celebrates one of our top musicians and is sure to be a hit with her fans.
Bic and Kristine also collaborated on Bic’s tour wardrobe and the singer/songwriter will be gracing the stage entirely in exclusive Miss Crabb creations. They include a sleek disco two-piece sequined suit inspired by Diana Ross and a lustrous white gown with a train among other showstopping looks. Miss Crabb offers these styles and many other unique designs through their special order service.
