All aboard the sustainability train – MECCA brands has just announced that beauty consumers will now be able to visit 100 MECCA stores in New Zealand and Australia to drop in any brand of beauty packaging to be recycled.

MECCA has teamed up with TerraCycle, a global leader in recycling the unrecyclable, to ensure their customers’ empty beauty products don’t end up in landfill. Rather than throwing away already-loved bottles, pots, tubes and palettes, TerraCycle’s recycling program allows MECCA to collect beauty waste, ready to be sorted, processed, and transformed into something new.

After a 14-month long trial, MECCA saved a total of 1,024kgs in waste and 10,240 empty beauty containers from ending up in landfill. Due to the success of the trial, MECCA has decided to bring the program on permanently and we love that!

Jean Bailliard, Brand Manager of TerraCycle Australia and New Zealand has celebrated this move as a way to tackle the waste problem in the beauty industry by such a well known and loved brand.

“Beauty products are often made up of complex materials that aren’t accepted in kerbside recycling. To make an impact, the problem of waste needs to be addressed by the beauty industry as a whole. We’re excited to support MECCA in taking a remarkable step forward in reducing the environmental impact of beauty packaging, by providing a free recycling solution for consumers across New Zealand and Australia.

MECCA customers can now drop in empty beauty containers into a labelled bin, or pass them onto a team member at any MECCA, MECCA Cosmetica or MECCA Maxima stores across New Zealand and have the peace of mind in knowing that you are doing your part to reduce the planet’s massive waste pollution problem – one #beautyempty at a time.
