Meadowlark recently released their new jewellery collection called Liberty and it’s a beautiful range that represents freedom, strength, and the bountiful beauty of flowers. In a time of so much political intensity and uncertainty in the world, designers Claire Hammon and Greg Fromont, want to radiate positivity and strength with their new pieces. Noting that when cast in precious metals, delicately rendered flowers can be a protective amulet. “Flowers are a reaction to a hostile world,” says Fromont. “They represent love, peace, femininity. They’re a reminder to keep goodness in our hearts and close to the surface for each other.”
The delicately pretty and beautifully detailed flowers are joined by robust padlocks for this collection. The padlocks being a tough-love charm that can suggest either security or captivity. The two motifs juxtapose perfectly to balance out the collection and provide a sense of depth to Liberty. Meadowlark celebrated their tenth birthday last year and are known for their alternative aesthetic that fuses elegant design with unconventional ideas and a punk-inflected aesthetic.
Hammon first designed a padlock necklace for herself when she was 18 and a young business owner. It was a personal statement at the time and a way of enclosing her autonomy all to herself, whereas now the padlocks in the Liberty collection reflect her wider world view and current concerns. “We lock our views away out of fear of being vilified and we are less free in the world,” says Hammon. “But we all need connection and community.” The sturdy padlocks in the collection feature Meadowlark’s insignia and hang solidly from necklaces and earrings with miniature padlocks found on chokers, rings and hoop earrings.
The flowers run free and wild throughout the range with clusters and singular wildflowers appearing on winsome earrings and necklaces. The wildflower earrings come in three sizes with each set of detailed blooms bigger than the last and oh so appealing. Dangling bluebells feature on stunning hoops and drop in clusters on earrings. Sweet daisies and pom poms make for charming ear studs and stacker rings while the engraved violette rings and hoop earrings have exquisite details.
