Maggie Marilyn has launched a beautiful new release of the brand’s Forever capsule collections in stores and online that offers optimistic fashion that is designed to be treasured. Late last year, designer Maggie Hewitt announced that her eponymous brand would no longer be offering seasonal collections or wholesaling, choosing instead to focus on a direct-to-consumer model further facilitated by opening a Maggie Marilyn flagship store in Britomart. It was a bold decision but Maggie and her team want to approach fashion differently, believing that ‘their clothes are simply the vehicle to building a community that will help them create the change they want to see in the world, and it can start with something as simple as buying clothes you’ll want to wear forever.’
With that concept of forever in mind the capsule collections are an expression of the woman Hewitt wants to be. The pieces are designed to be aspirational and timeless, each garment purchased with intention and loved for a lifetime. During this past year of heartbreak and anguish, it was poetry that Maggie Hewitt looked to as a guiding light. The powerful words of Rupi Kaur and Walt Whitman helped Hewitt to make sense of her emotions and process complex feelings. “Poetry evokes a particular mood – just like fashion does – and when I felt heartbroken in 2020, poetry was a way for me to access hope. To search for the best version of myself,” says Maggie. “I hope Maggie Marilyn clothes can do the same for those who wear them.”
That sense of optimism comes through in the vibrant hues of the new Forever capsule collection, kicking off with vibrant shades of cayenne, banana, and lime that feel joyful and fresh. There’s also a sweet shade of pink and a delightful violet that catches the eye alongside staple tones of black, white and cream. Maggie Marilyn’s collections have always had a clever juxtaposition of sophistication and romanticism, like the playful ruffles that feature on impeccably tailored suiting and a classic chequerboard that features a charming heart motif.
Maggie Marilyn makes everything from a simple tshirt to a puffed sleeve gown feel covetable with clever details and thoughtful touches that add to the joy for the wearer. Perfectly cut blazers have always been a strong feature in the brand’s collections and with names like Have the Faith and I Lead From the Heart Maggie Hewitt is definitely looking to empower her customers too.
