Liam‘s beautiful new range for Spring/Summer 2019 is out now with designer Emily Miller-Sharma titling the collection Hopeful. She was inspired by ‘the beacons of hope in her family’s dress up box, and the beacons of hope she looks to today’, after all there’s something to be said about hope – it asks, ‘what is possible?’.
The collection utilises Emily’s skills as a storyteller as well as a designer as she has woven references to new beginnings and endless possibilities into the range. There are sentimental references from her grandmother’s wedding dress to her childhood school uniform, to the multitude of dress-up costumes from the designer’s childhood.
A hero piece for any child, the costume cape with its gathered neckline, is referenced in the gathered detail on the Holiday Blouse, Dress and Skirt. While the charm of the dance skirt with ric rac detail on the hem remains a childhood favourite of the designers and has been cleverly utilised on the Peppy Skirt, Dress, Top and Pants made from European Flax®. The result is a sense of playfulness and whimsy while still being elegant and refined womenswear.
A key print of the range is the vibrant Club 555 poppy print that is named after the place where Miller-Sharma’s grandparents first met. It features delightful magenta poppies and is wonderfully utilised on a jumpsuit, sleeveless top and skirt that have energy and instill the wearer with confidence. While those who prefer more minimalist looks with love the Lucky Maxi Dress, Tank and Skirt in simple but luxurious khaki silk. Liam take their commitment to being mindful seriously with both the Club 555 and Lucky silk fibres traceable back to the silk farms.
Going back to the spirit of the collection, the designers has also referenced Elpis, the spirit of hope in Greek mythology, through summery shades of taffy pink. The stunning Elpis Blouse and Pantsuit are made from cupro, a regenerated cellulose fibre, and are perfect for the warm weather. Liam have also created the perfect suit for summer in the form of the Elpis Blazer and Shorts in cerise pink that are great for the office and the weekend.
Hopeful is Emily Miller-Sharma’s way of asking us to focus on what is possible. She wants these Liam pieces to reassure, empower and spark hope which couldn’t be more thoughtfully timed and perfectly executed by a brand that is mindful and enlightened.
